Apprentice Pokémon Guide Now Up

Just finished working on this jawn yesterday, it is a guide on how to set up Apprentice to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game over the internet. Check out the guide here. Please comment if any of the instructions are confusing so I can make them more understandable.

Also peep this, Jeremy and I will be working on the new card patch for Pokémon Platinum: Supreme Victors (and all future patches for that matter), so this is going to be the place to download all the new Pokémon patches for Apprentice.

You should go over redshark too. Apprentice is pretty easy to use you just gotta use some imagination.

Appr is in fact way better, mostly because of the playerbase.
Rogue Archetype once asked me over Hamachi, “So, played any good players with your Nats deck yet?”

    To which I replied, half-jokingly:
“No, of course not. This is redshark.”

    Great idea Adam,

I actually tried downloading Apprentice from another site (after you mentioned in earlier post) and could not get it to load properly. Your download worked perfectly. Are there any pre-made decks (just to play around with) or do you need to create your won decklists? If you can export/import deck lists, it would be cool for you to post up the lists that you have been testing with Jeremy.

Ah, thanks. I’ve tried Redshark to no avail, maybe this will work out better. We should start a sixprizes room on Hamachi.

Thanks again, gonna set this up tomorrow.

lol nice yoyo. Yah I don’t think I know anyone that prefers Redshark over Apprentice unless they have a Mac.

Dave, I was actually thinking of doing that! Making a page where we upload decks and you can download them. The only problem is I know I constantly update my decks. I’ll try to work something out. Oh and Apprentice only comes with some pre-made MTG decks, so you gotta make your own.

Kwiz, we might start a SixPrizes Apprentice league. I know back in the day there was some way for people to keep track of rankings and everything, I’ll ask Jeremy if he still remember how. That would be gnarly if we could get that going. :)

If you guys find any of the instructions confusing or have any questions, just comment here so I can improve the guide. :D

I actually like Redshark’s setup, as it is a lot easier to maneuver, but the player base isn’t that good. When I’m playing a 2-deck game against myself, I’ll use Redshark instead. It’s also full of errors and such. Appr has none.

  9. kwisdumb

It’d be awesome to get some kind of league set up, where we could do rankings and stuff, and I know I’d be willing to throw in some small prizes for tournaments if that were ever the case. This could be a very exciting development.

Don’t get me wrong I prefer apprentice any day over redshark, it was just a suggestion. Apprentice patches come out a lot quicker than RS patches not to mention it’s nice that apprentice has so many other card games developed for it.

    Adam,

I know what you mean about constantly changing decks. But it would be cool if you posted up just the initial lists of the decks you tested with Jeremy (and his too of course). Then it would be easy for people on the site to take those lists, test and modify them. You might end up getting some more feedback and discussion that way.

The league idea sounds really good.

Yeah, a few years ago I was in the Pojo Pokemon Apprentice League on myleague.com. It was pretty fun. It ranks you similarly to how you get ranked in real life. You gain a lot more points by beating someone highly ranked than someone that’s new. This sounds like a great idea.

  21. alex d

Somebody tried to do a ranking system like that on ‘Gym once. There was a site that did that for you… I don’t remember what it was, though.

  22. kwisdumb

It seems that MyLeague.com is still up and running. That’d be a great resource to explore for this kind of thing.

I’m handling a lot of work right now but I’ll check out Apprentice ASAP. Sounds exciting.

I just installed Apprentice, but I’ve got a question about Hamachi:

I can install and open it, but there doesn’t appear to be any icons on the bottom, as is shown in the .pdf, and explained in the guide. I’ve used Hamachi before, and I’m really not sure why this is. A google search turns up nothing. =[ Any help?

Only if Hamachi was Mac-friendly. :'( Nice guide though. If I find out Hamachi turns Mac-friendly, I’ll be sure to join your league!

kwisdumb, that is really odd that no icons show up. Are you able to right click anywhere on Hamachi to get options? My advice would be to completely uninstall it then reinstall, and if that doesn’t work try contacting the Hamachi site for support.

Biskit, man that’s a bummer I thought Hamachi worked for Macs! I know you can get a program that gives you a Windows desktop on a Mac to run Windows programs…do you have that? I’ll try to find some people who have Macs and ask them what they do.

I’ve figured out that the problem has something to do with my computer as a whole, rather than just Hamachi. I got it to work yesterday with a system restore, but it’s acting up again today. I’ve contacted some techie friends of mine to see what they have to say. Thanks though!

I used to run Parallels on here, but it tended to be… a little buggy. It was also taking up a lot of room. Thanks for asking them though, that’s nice of you.

What is Parallels? I’ve never heard of it. Is it older or something?

  35. alex d

Oh really? So Mac and PC players can’t play each other, is that correct?

  38. Adam Capriola

Mac and PC should be able to play against each other as long as you both use the same program (Apprentice or Redshark). I guess Redshark is the only one that works on Mac without a Windows desktop program, so both players would need Redshark and then it’s just a matter of connecting!

BTW I just looked up parallels, it looks like a program that allows you to run Windows programs on a Mac. So that might be your answer to the Hamachi problem. :)

Mac users can read more about it here:

Yo peeps with Macs, are you sure you can’t use Hamachi? On the download page there is an option for Mac users, does that not work?
