A little video I made for anyone that does not know about the contest…if you are a regular visitor then you don’t need to watch this, but if you are new, check it out!
Didn’t watch this, but good idea in putting it up. Is there someway to ‘sticky’ this update so it stays at the top, even after new articles are posted?
There probably is a way to sticky it, but I don’t know how. I really need to create a landing page for the site, where some featured articles are all listed at the top and such…but I don’t have the patience to make that right now.
Yeah, I think a landing page or something would be really nice. Or even just leave the page like it is, but only include the titles of the articles, so you can save space and have more articles showing on the front page. I think the site is a little cluttered myself, but the content is well worth it. Good luck!

I want to keep the “front page” the way it is for now and have the whole article showing. I think seeing all the pictures on the front page looks nice. I can adjust the number of articles that show, I just don’t want the loading time to be ridiculous. Maybe I’ll put the “recent posts” tab back on the right sidebar for easier access.
I did change the category pages though, I removed some stuff from the footers so it’s less cluttered there.
I have no idea when I’d get a landing page up. Probably not for a while unless the WordPress theme I uses makes a landing page template for me to use. I just don’t have the patience to try and develop one at the moment, if anything I’d rather pay someone to do it and make it look good haha.

I like the layout as it is now, with the latest article front and centre. The right hand columns with latest comments and most commented on articles are also very good, although there’s a couple of spots that seem to get adds (Ads by Google and Shopzilla) placed over top of your text. Just another kink to work out.

I appreciate the input guys, I am constantly trying to improve the site. :)
Dave, what browser do you use? I use Firefox and everything looks clean to me, none of the ads are covering up text. Not sure how to fix that other than telling everyone to use Firefox haha. I’ll look into it though, I’m guessing you use Internet Explorer if something looks weird.

Firefix is good here, as well. There’s some weird formatting that happens sometimes via weird settings, strange screen resolution, etc, that makes some sites “settle” oddly.
Try setting your monitor to 1024 x 768 pixels, and restart the browser to see if it helps.

I fixed one thing with the layout, I originally had it set to 99% so that no matter how big your resolution, the website would take up 99% of the width, but I noticed with smaller resolutions this caused some problems, so it’s now a fixed layout of 1250 px. My screen settings are 1280 x 800, I don’t know if that is common or not. I could change the settings if it’s not.

September 1st is the deadline for all refs and entries into the contest. Anyone that registers for the newsletter after then will not be factored in.
