What is your favorite set in the current modified format? – Jeremy’s Response

Regigigas LV.X Stormfront SF 100 Pokemon CardMy favorite set in the current Pokémon Modified format is Stormfront. I think the Pokémon TCG was at its maximum fun-ness during the months where it was the newest released set. I liked when most games were about building up your Stage 2 and letting loose on the opponent. Platinum and Rising Rivals took us back 1 step in my opinion, by bringing in these amazingly fast Basic Pokémon SP, more like the boring days of Base Set’s Haymaker. Magnezone SF #6 was a great card. Gyro Ball for 60 damage and switch with Mr. Mime to prevent a counterattack. Poké Blower, Healer, and Drawer added some good options to any deck. Regigigas LV.X was used a lot during the fall City Championships.

Yeah, Stormfront was a pretty good set that I think was a little overshadowed by the release of Platinum, with the new SP mechanic and all. I think the biggest things to come out of SF were Gengar and Machamp, though. Combine those with all you mentioned in Blower, Healer, Regigigas, etc. and we’ve got all the makings of a good set. Nice article!

Stormfront was not my favorite set by far (I actually kind of hated it), but it is extremely clear that the CC metagame was by far the most intelligent and “planned” metagame… meaning that a good player actually won based on their skill, not a random pairing with a good matchup (the only time I felt this way all season).
