Some Updates and a Poll

Adam MovingWhat’s up everyone? As you read this, I am in the process of moving out of my parents house into an apartment for this coming school year. I have a lot of junk to migrate from home to my apartment, so I apologize if I am not able to get any posts up the next day or two. I also start classes on Monday and have some other obligations to take care of, but I hope to get settled fairly quickly.

I do want to get everyone’s opinion on something today though…how often would you like 6p to be updated with new posts? I have been scheduling 1 post per day, but seriously, how are you guys liking that? Do you like daily updates? Would you rather there only be 3 to 4 posts a week so that there is more time for discussion? Am I giving you too much information at once? Or would you like more than 1 post a day?

If we were to only do 3 to 5 posts a week, I would make sure they are real quality posts so that there is a lot to talk about. If we were to do more than 1 post a day, I think the post quality might not be as intriguing; the void would have to be filled with COTD’s most likely. But if you can’t get enough information, then that could be the direction we go.

Please vote in the poll, but most importantly, comment and give me some feedback. Whatever you guys want, I can make it happen. :)

[poll id=”7″]

P.S. I will take some pictures of my new pad and post them later this week…the place is sweet.

P.P.S. All last minute contest entries are due by Monday at midnight Eastern time!

P.P.P.S. Three words: 6p street team…get stoked on this…details should be out by mid week.

I’d rather have multiple updates a day and a COTD every day if possible.

That would really help out viewers with a mass of updates…

I voted for more than once a day. I’d like 6P to start covering news, etc.

However, I wouldn’t want bottom of the barrel news and low quality articles just so we could have more than one per day. We definitely have to keep a good Quality:Quantity ratio.

Last minute recruiting at league starting in a few minutes. Must win!

    Street team? Sounds great.

    Thanks for the updates!

Personally I think the one-a-day method is the best. It allows discussion, but isn’t bogged down with tons of entries that may or may not be of quality disposition.

    Keep it up :)

If I could make another suggestion, as long as we’re talking about features of the site…

    – I would try to combine the very top of the page menu with the menu just under the graphic. I think that would simplify the site quite a bit.

    – I’d also take out the Google Search in the top right corner.

    – I think the “What To Do?” and “More 6p” menus on the left are kind of redundant. You could probably reduce that down to one.

    – As long as we’re talking reducing side menus, I think the “recent comments” one is quite cluttered, and I don’t think we need the “Spread the word” one either.

Just a few suggestions. I know you’re busy and all Adam, and this isn’t meant to push you or anything. I just think the site could be more sleek-looking and user friendly with some of these changes implemented. Good luck with the move and the street team, and as always, let me know if you need anything for the site, cards for tournaments, or help with anything else.

    Thanks for the site!

Gonna try to respond to some of these comments…

      1. I don’t think I am able to combine the page and category menus, but I can move the page menu down from the top of the page. I sorta like it where it is now tho, but I’ll try it out and see how it looks later.
      2. Where do you think I should put the Google search?

      3. Yeah I will admit they are redundant but I am really trying to push those things. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are very important for the growth of the site.

      4. Spread the Word is important IMO because most people don’t know what those buttons do…I know I didn’t know what they did until i put them on the site.

Recent Comments is really just so people can see what people are commenting on recently, so that if discussion on a not so recent post is going on, then people can see it.

I could set it so that less recent comments are shown…like 6 instead of 10. Would that be better?

If other people have your sentiments though, I can edit stuff! I just want to make

i think it is good at is, but for you guys i think 4-5 posts per week is enough :) some time for discussion.

I think the one a day format is the best compromise between quantity and quality, with enough time to discuss. The poll certainly shows that people like what they are getting.

On the format issue, I like the “recent comments” column, but agree the two menu bars at the top could be merged into one.

Hopefully you will keep getting reader contributions to help ease your workload and provide a wide variety of views.

Adam, I really like the what you stay positive and welcoming with everyone on the site. Hope the move goes well.

Thanks for the input! Like I said above, I can’t merge the page and category bars but I could move the page bar down. I’ll try it out.

One a day sounds good to me. It’s not like discussion has to end after a day… we can keep talking about something more controversial while another article is posted. This gives some people new items to talk about if they aren’t familiar with what’s more “popular” or haven’t tested a specific deck, etc.

Please don’t lower the amount of articles per week, I really like coming to this site each day and seeing what the topic is for the day and how I can contribute.

I’d say something like 5-7 times a week would be good. And quality over quantity. The idea of this website is to give good quality tips/deck ideas/stuff, right?

If I could change the side menus, I’d remove the What to do and Spread the word, bird! menus off from the left, and take the Top Commentators list and put it under the Latest News menu. Also, I’d clarify the Latest News menu, it’s very hard to read… and maybe take off the Twitter thing from the Latest News, “the i just had a brush in with a racoon and made the loudest hank hill noise i’ve ever made” is a bit disturbing…

Otherwise, I think that the site is very well designed. The side menus just need some tweaking. :)

Gotta keep the “What to Do” and “Spread to word” at least for now to get people to help build the site. I guarantee that most people that visit the site aren’t Twitter followers or Facebook Fans even tho I try to push it a lot.

The latest news thing will be better, people will send in updates to twitter during the tourney season and they’ll show up there.

  16. BiskitFoo

I think 3-5 articles a week would allow people to follow the site a bit easier, and not have too many articles to dig up if they missed a day coming to the site.

Hey guys, just wanted to pop in real quick and say thanks for all the input! I’ll go over all the comments later on today or tomorrow. Definitely liking the input on site design, I can edit some of that stuff.

I have been very busy trying to get situated in my new apartment…moving sure is job. I didn’t realize how much stuff I had.

I start classes today but will probably end up missing my first class because I have to wait for some cable guy to get here.

Sorry that I don’t have a post lined up for today. Ian made a video but it was too long to upload to YouTube and I am not sure he figured out how to edit it to make it shorter.

Aight well I gtg, I’ll talk to everyone later!

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Well it looks like most people want at least 1 post a day, so we’ll continue to that! I have been incredible busy the past 5 days so I was not able to get a post a day up, but will try to get back on schedule starting tomorrow.

I’ll try to adjust things on the sidebars the next couple days…I think they look great but if you guys find them annoying I can adjust…I just want to make sure people get involved with the site in every way possible. :)

Ok I changed the “To Do List” so that it only shows up the first 10 times you visit the site, and after that it just says to join the Street Team. I really only wanted the “To Do List” for people that are new to the site anyway, so hopefully that makes things a little less cluttered. :)

I tried moving the Page links but it looked weird right on top of the Category links. I could make the font bigger or change colors, what would you guys think about doing any of that?

Latest News, Want More, and Spread the Word are going to stay the way they are for now, but I can move things around if you guys want me to.

Give me some more imput. :)

  24. Adam Capriola

oh yea and for the popular posts function, I can do all time popular posts or popular posts from a given time period (i.e. last month). What do you guys thinks about that?
