Pokémon Card of the Day – Absol G LV.X Supreme Victors SV 141

Absol G LV.X Supreme Victors SV 141 Pokemon CardThis is my first article ever written for any kind of site. I hope that this satisfies the readers.

When I first looked through the Platinum: Supreme Victors set I first looked at what new LV.X’s we were going to get. When scanning through them I noticed Absol G LV.X. The were a few reasons I liked this Pokémon card. One, Absol is one of my favorite Pokémon, but aside from that, it was the Poké-Power “Darkness Send” that caught my attention.

I know it looks a bit shaky at first. After all, your opponent could just play a TGI Power Spray and make it futile, but even if you get past that, it’s a Poké-Power that relies on the flip of a coin. However, if you follow through both circumstances above, you can disrupt your opponent by taking cards off the top of his/her deck and put them into the Lost Zone, meaning they are gone for the game! Combine this with the Poké-Power “Disrupting Spy” of Chatot G from Supreme Victors and you can control what card go away if you flip Heads.

Chatot G Supreme Victors SV 54 Pokemon CardNot only that, if you have a TGI Energy Gain attached to Absol G LV.X, he can be a great attacker as well. Even without an Energy Gain attached you can use his attack “Darkness Slugger” for 1 Dark Energy and any other energy to do 30 damage plus 30 more if you discard a card, which can be useful anytime during the game if you have clutter in your current hand. So, WITH a TGI Energy Gain attached to Absol G LV.X, you can do 60 damage for 1 Dark Energy!

On top of that, the Dark Energy could be a Special D Energy, adding another 10 damage. Absol G LV.X is fast, disruptive, and can do some good hitting and running if you use “Darkness Send”, hit the defending Pokémon with a “Darkness Slugger”, and then use a TGI Poké Turn to put Absol G LV.X back into your hand.

I have always liked cards that can disrupt an opponent and it’s hard to find a competitive combo that does that in this game. I think the release of Absol G LV.X, players can start building more disruptive decks. I bring you a sample deck that I once built using Absol G LV.X:

Pokémon
3 Absol G SV
1 Absol G LV.X SV
3 Chatot G SV
2 Baltoy GE
2 Claydol GE
2 Uxie LA
1 Uxie LV.X LA
1 Toxicroak G DP41
1 Skuntank G PL
2 Crobat G PL
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums
4 Cyrus’s Conspiracy
4 Roseanne’s Research
4 TGI Energy Gain
4 TGI Poké Turn
3 TGI Power Spray
3 TGI SP Radar
2 VS Seeker
1 Aaron’s Collection
1 Night Maintenance
2 Bebe’s Search
2 Galactic’s HQ
Energy
4 Special D
3 Basic Dark
2 P
3 Call

When you’re using something as fast as absol, I usually prefer just a uxie line rather than claydol too, but I suppose the claydol helps you keeps up with the discard effect. Then again, the uxie lvX DOES help against fighting types like machamp and even mankey (who gets a huge hit on absol G lvX). Maybe instead of claydol you could throw in some more SP’s to combo with Absol G, like a luxray GL line or two.

Also, 3 chatot G is way too many. It might make a decent starter, but you really don’t want to waste the bench/deck space on 3 of them, especially when you could use disrupting spy, put good cards on top, and then flip all tails- giving your opponent cards he/she might need.

I like absol, but if you don’t outspeed your opponent, then you fall behind on damage output very quickly compared to some other decks out there.

Maximize the sprays and go heavy disruption, I’d take out a chatot for the 4th spray. I feel like maybe more disruption should be used, Lookers, Wager, Mars, or Cyrus initiative.

What do you guys think about using Absol SW with Absol G? It seems like a lot of disruption, I just don’t know where your prizes are going to come from.

Another idea could be to throw Giratina LV.X in the deck too, though again I don’t know how it would work out. I haven’t played around with Absol G. LV.X yet!

Absol G. Lv. X is a card that seems usable, but it has everything going against it…
-bad weakness with both mankey and toxicroak g as easy counters
-one retreat, in comparison with such sp’s like luxray and infernape
-flippy power…flips are never good to rely on to win games
-darkness type…the only card out there that’s weak to dark is gengar, and that’s negligible considering gengar’s pokepower

Perhaps with Absol SW and some disrupting trainers you could pull off enough discard hurt to win, but the strategy is fairly weak.

DWD anyone? If I am not mistaken it died because of Claydol. With 4 Power Sprays it could block Claydol and Uxie and manage to get some decent hand distruption, like the good old days! :P
Add in a 2-2 line of Porygon 2 instead of Claydol and you can use 2 Mars/Cyrus’s initiative in a single turn.
    Doesn’t look bad on paper.

How about Top Drop Primeape to work with Chatot’s power too? You can discard high HP pokemon and do massive damage if you get lucky.

Weavile G might be a good partner. He can help get the Absols out and then retreat for free. Throw a couple of Upper Energy in the deck and he can be a backup on the Bench to use “Team Attack” if you fall behind in prizes.

    • Randy Branch  → Dave

Energy Gain is more reliable to cut down on costs, being searchable and more flexible. I could only see Upper and Weavile G being used together so you could attach Unown G.

    Thanks for all your comments

Yeah I realize the list is a bit shaky. It was one that I made before SV came out, and this is a very primitive list I have posted (mainly because I haven’t really worked with Absol G since this list)

I have to shoot down the list. And yes I read that you haven’t worked with it since. In my opinion, absol needs to be paired with another pokemon. I, myself, still don’t know who it works best with. The problem is your damage being maxed out at only 60/70 ish.

I agree with the user above that mentioned the -1 chatot for the extra spray. Also I’d probably make room for a skuntank just to add a much needed +10 dmg.
