Pokémon Cards Combo: Shaymin LV.X PL + Yanmega SV

Shaymin Lv.X Platinum PL 126 Pokemon Card

Grass type Pokémon have always been utility based. They always cause lots of Special Conditions but when it comes to getting clear KOs, very few cards stand out aside from the current Beedrill GE + Beedrill RR combination. Supreme Victors though seems to have changed that, and has made available a new combo that can prove deadly when it gets set up and running.

Yanmega SV’s “Wind Return” combines perfectly with Shaymin LV.X’s “Seed Flare” as you can keep recycling Grass energies back and forth by alternating both attacks, and if your deck is consistent and reliable enough, you will surely be able to gather enough energy cards in your hand or in play to keep a steady flow of 1HKOs throughout the game after you have fully set up.Yanmega Supreme Victors SV 14 Pokemon Card “Thankfulness” gives Yanmega an extra +40 HP, bringing his total to 140 HP and so your energies will always be safe on the bench as hardly any card will be able to snipe and KO a Yanmega sitting on the bench just waiting to KO the opposing Pokémon.

The problem I have found when trying to build a deck for these cards, is you can’t use Claydol GE to aid you in setting up, because a lot of the time your hand will have 15 cards, and thus you won’t be drawing anything with “Cosmic Power”. I think there are two possible options to replace Claydol GE in this deck. The first one is Dodrio SV, which simply allows you to draw an extra card for the turn. It’s not a huge advantage, but it’s better than nothing. The other is running a heavy Bronzong support line, combining both Bronzong SF and Bronzong MT. One allows you to get extra energy for Shaymin LV.X PL to power up its attack, while the other one helps to draw extra cards and the discarded energies can be easily recovered with Yanmega SV’s “Speed Boost”.

Bronzong Stormfront SF 13 Pokemon Card

I’d like to get help from the community in coming up with a decklist to try out for this deck. Here are some pointers I have come up with myself that I believe are essential when trying to come up a list for the deck:

  • Shaymin PL 15 – “Growth” helps speed up the deck, and this is your ideal starter for it.
  • Great Ball – To help improve consistency in the early game.
  • Bronzong SF + MT – To aid with midgame situations, probably use a 4-2/2 supporting line.
  • Some way to ensure a benched Shaymin PL is ready to replace the active one with enough energy attached to it in case the active one dies.
  • Azelf LA – A prizes Shaymin LV.X would make it quite hard to accomplish your strategy successfully.

So can we all combine thoughts and come up with a decklist worth testing and perfecting? I think so!

  1. Schweet. I like that combo. So yeah… To set up, Rosies, Zongs and POV’s can do the job or something…

  2. Charlie

yea nice combo, you can add Bronzon G + Flint for higer acceleration if you will be without shaymin Lv. X ….

  3. Bendingspoons1

i would try something like this…keep in mind that you need to drop like a million energy on a single yanmega…

here’s a list you should try and see if you would need claydol or not, i mean i don’t know for sure. Sableye might be an option…

    Pokemon-22
3 Shaymin PL (the one that attaches energy, i think flying)
    1 Shaymin PL

    1 Claydol GE
    1 Bronzor SF/MD

I run this deck with amazing results. I don’t run claydol or uxie, instead, I use Masquerain SV and Bucks training for draw power. This works well as a draw engine because it gets 120 hp with shaymin, costs 1 energy to do 30, and its pokebody basically takes away its weakness. Puls once you are ready for the Yanmega, Shaymin cycle, you free retreat. I also would dump the bronzong because it is too slow and can be a pain if it is dragged out. Instead put in Parasect SV for nutritional support and charge up your Yanmegas and Shaymins that way. 2-2 lines of Masquerain and Parasect, 3-3 line of yanmega, 3-1 Shaymin should work best. another possible tech is porygon2. Finally, you will need at least a looker’s investigation or cynthia’s feelings to shuffle you hand into your deck to avoid being decked by too much draw power and too big of a hand.

    • Joshua Hall  → AtotheJ

Any strategy relying on an attack to draw cards seems extremely slow considering the speed of all the decks out right now. The Shaymin/Yanmega combo seems like it would work with a more standard list, as you can attack early with Shaymin, using Claydol/Uxie as draw power, then clean up with Yanmegas.

      • AtotheJ  → Joshua

It usually takes 2-3 turns to set up and if they take a prize each turn, that is okay because by that time I can usually get 6 OHKO’s in a row before they have a chance to set up anything decent.

        • AtotheJ  → AtotheJ

Plus by turn 3 you will have too many cards in your hand for either uxie and claydol to be useful.

A staraptor FB engine might work well in this case.

Also, throw in a ditto LA, since Flygon OHKO’s your shaymin X and that’s not cool with our strategy.

  10. Richard Lucas

I agree with the LA Ditto comment to combat Flygons (which would be a real threat). You may also need at least 1 Lucian’s Assisgnment too.

I’ve played against someone running this deck and I would also suggest including at least 1 TM TS-2 given the current popularity of stage 2 decks right now.

By the way, how well does this deck matchup against the Blaziken variants?

  11. Drew Stillwell

Well, assuming you don’t run bronzong and run something else, luring flame probably won’t hurt you too much.

The weakness doesn’t look good though, especially if they can get a burn on your shaymin. If paired with luxray you are even more hurt by weakness :/ If you get set up, however, you should be all set with OHKO’s each turn.

That’s theorymon btw, I haven’t tried out this deck (yet?)

  12. Adam Capriola

I dunno about this, it seems like if your opponent is able to take out your Shaymin, you lose. Blaziken FB LV.X and Flygon LV.X can do this pretty easily and they are both popular at the moment.

Seems like a fun combo but I don’t see it being competitive.

I have actually played this deck against several Blaziken FB, Luxray, and Dialga G decks as well as amphilock variants and I have actually had a lot of success. One bubble coat and Shaymin Lv.X or Yanmega is protected against Blaziken for a turn which is all you need to knock it out. With the OHKO power of this deck you will be KOing everything quickly while building up your bench. Shaymin gets KO’d, Pokemon Rescue and you put it on your waiting fully powered Shaymin and you are ready to go.

    ok
this is how it should be played.
there is a paresect that attaches two energy from the deck to a pokemon.
you use that until somebody knocks it out or until you cant anymore .
so what you do is keep attachin to the yanmega then switch off with shaymin.

    2-2 paresect
    3-3 yanmega
    2-2 shaymin
    2-2 claydol
    1 uxie
1 unown g( i dont see the need for more than one.
    everything has a body.)

but this is what i think the poke lines should look like.

Unown q has to be in this to give the shaymin free retreat IMO. Alternating the attackers seems solid, but still iffy. I’d say to use Togekiss but that’s too much.

  26. Lol I promise Starptor hadn’t ocurred to me until I saw nardd mention it here.

jeremy adams, you want to start attacking with Shaymin to set up Yanmega’s, not the other way around, and Shaymin PL attaches an extra energy from your hand, so there’s no need for Parasect.

You don’t need Unown Q. Yanmega’s Speed Boost will recover the discarded energy when Shaymin retreats. Maybe a 2-2 Shaymin line would work better. And I’d run 2 Premier balls and 2 Pokemon rescues. Still, there are going to be times Shaymin X is KOd and can’t come back right away and the windmill stalls.

I agree with FunnyBear, you can retreat the Shaymin, burn one energy, and use Yanmega’s pokebody to get it back. Then just attach your energy for the turn onto Shaymin and be done with it.
Also, another card I find to be very very useful in this as a starter would be Smeargle from Secret Wonders? I think.
For no energy, search your deck for 3 energy and put them in your hand.

do you thin k it’ll be a nice combo of shaymin and scizor, scizor getting extra 40hp will have mo re chance of honeycomb defender and its pound down will do 40+30 because u only need shaymin and scizor in play and add another expert belt and itll be and attack of 90 and a hp of 160
