I’m going to try and make this quick because I have a lot of schoolwork eyeing me up right now.
We all know that Bronzong G is pretty much a staple card in SP decks. Its ability to transfer an Energy off before using a Poké Turn can save you a prize and an Energy drop all in one. It gives you that ability to attack with a Pokémon a turn sooner than you normally would.
The thought occurred to me earlier today that Bronzong might actually be decent in non-SP decks. Let me explain how:
Bronzong lets you move Energy off Pokémon SP onto any Pokémon, so what you would do is play Bronzong on your bench and attach an Energy to it. You would then be able to move this Energy to any of your Pokémon at any time of the game (barring a Power Spray or Mesprit drop).
This could be advantageous for a few reasons. If you are playing a deck that has more than 1 attacker, this would give you the option to power up both Pokémon simultaneously, possibly causing your opponent to make a faulty decision in their planning. If you have just 1 Energy on two attackers and 1 on Bronzong, either one of them could have 3 Energy and be doing a big attack the next turn via “Galactic Switch”.
You could also store a Special Energy card like Upper Energy on Bronzong and then move it onto a Pokémon whenever you get behind in prizes.
However, Bronzong does take up a bench spot, has 3 retreat, and in testing the idea might prove to be terrible. I just thought I would throw this out there. :)
Back to work…

Its a great energy accelerator in non SP decks when you use Flints but I don’t think it useful in a non SP unless your using Flints. I think the fact you can turn it if really needed is good and as it seems most decks these days tech in SP that need turn anyway so turns are all ready there.
I have seen it played in a few heavy energy decks like Girantina and I am sure it will be the main accelerator people will try in Arceus.
Anybody test with it and think it helped alot? Flints or without it?

it’s my first choice at my set up when call energy is at my hand, i search for palkia-absol-dialga, + bronzong, it provides lot of consistency to any SP deck, it’s a stapple IMO, also it’s nice to attack with, sometimes you need an additional damage to the bench after your palkia/gallade is KO, i give it 10/10 at SP deck of course

I really wanted to make this work with both a tech Charizard G LV. X and a Bronzong G, since you can move any Energy from anywhere to Charizard, then Galactic Switch it to any other Pokemon. Too much bench space, though.

Power Swing
This card is a staple in sp decks. It can accelerate very well and one of the best parts is that it can move special energy as well. One weak spot is that it is an easy target for gengar after a couple of uses but unown g helps.

It is always nice to use it’s power then poke’turn all the damage away. ^_^

Well I know this card is a staple in SP decks, but I think what adam is trying to propose is the possibility of it in a non SP deck.
So. . . bronzong G in a non-sp deck, huh? Hmmm I’m not really sure what I think about this one! Like you said when weighing out the cons, it has high retreat, takes up a spot, etc. I think in a high speed game like we have today, you’re best off leaving late game techs such as this one to the trainers/supporters. I’m a big fan of Lucian’s and even Energy Switch in a slower moving deck– these cards also have the ability to switch energy despite power locks, and aren’t specifically designated to SP pokemon, so you wouldn’t have to attach to bronzong G first.
While Flygon lock isn’t as popular as it once was, some people still run variations of it for this very reason. I’m afraid lots of people will go “oh flygon lock isn’t played any more so I don’t need all these unown G’s and switches. . . ” and then the same people will get locked to death :P. Having bronzong G plus claydol is a big risk to the Flylock for sure– do you unown G bronzong or claydol? Or your active and hope they don’t play warp point? It’s not a situation I’d like to get myself into :0. To tell a funny story, one time I locked my brother’s bronzong G, and he continually used his power so that he could KO himself :P.
But, as always, bronzong G is REALLY REALLY good in sp. I just don’t think he could fit his way into non-sp.

You could use him as a way to drop Rainbow Energy down without doing 10 damage to your Active. Bronzong G will take the damage, then transfer to the active.
I thought about doing this in a couple of decks but never actually tried it – Bench space, as already mentioned, seems a problem.

Yeah I suppose Lucian’s and Energy Switch are better cards. The bench space is such an issue. Oh well it was a thought!

yeah energy switch is instantaneous and unless you run a huge energy excellerator deck energy switch will be better than lucains.
Randy Branch
Or a deck that uses a high amount of special energy (as Energy Switch only moves basic energy). Flygon, for example usually uses over 50% special energy. I think moving one energy should be all you need as no competitve deck takes more than two energy drops to use its main attack.

One combo I should have mentioned in the article…you can use Galactic’s Switch, Poke Turn, then drop Bronzong and do it again. Not an easy move to recognize, but it could win you a game.
J-Wittz
ah that’s a hidden SP classic! A great move people will never think about!

I don’t know if I’d consider it an SP staple…Sure it’s a staple in Dialga G and Palkia G decks, maybe you run one in Luxape, but I don’t think it’s needed in BlazeRay, maybe that’s just me. I guess with Spiritomb running around it would be nice to have him if you can’t drop an energy gain… I just never seem to find the space in BlazeRay…he’s a pretty bad start as you will have to waste resources to get him to the bench.

Also with a heavy retreat cost he is much more likely to be bright looked or inviting trapped (unless you get unown g) on him in time and again you would have to waste a resource to get him to the bench or give your opponnent a free prize

The problem in those two example however are
1. I can’t think of any reason why you would be attaching to crobat in Gengar
2. Beedrill doesn’t’ have any bench space for Bronzong G
The Thunder
I wouldnt use Bronzong in non-SP Decks cause theirs not enough SPs to switch energies. I might try Gengar though since it uses Crobat G. Or Raybees for Luxray GL LV.X.

Im really not sure if it is a staple now. Takuto never used it and did fine without it. The only sp deck I would consider it a staple in is pal kia lock.

Graham Poteet you are very right. I just listed ex to show bronzong is not used in many non sp decks.

I tried using Bronzong G and Flint’s for acceleration in non-SP decks, particularly Gardevoir (which can Telepass a Cyrus’ Conspiracy to grab the Flint’s, or which can use Telepass for another essential Supporter after using a drawn-into Flint’s), but it didn’t wield me the best results. The upcoming release of DCE will take away the need to accelerate for most decks anyway.
