Survey Results

Alright well I’m just going to go straight through the survey and share any info I think is interesting or relevant…there were a total of 158 votes cast just to let you know.

Looks like a vast majority of the people coming to the site are in the Masters division. The breakdown is 70% Masters, 25% Seniors, and 5% Juniors. We are my Juniors at???

The breakdown of how much time people spend playing Pokémon cards per week is spread out quite evenly. The highest 2 percentages were 2-4 hours and 5-10 hours.

Most people seem to buy booster packs, theme decks, or tins in stores. I thought more people would be buying singles online, but I guess not!

It’s nearly 50/50 in regard to people who do or do not regularly attend Pokémon league.

In regard to whether or not people would like to see online tournament run by SixPrizes.com, the breakdown is 44% Yes, 9% No, and 47% Maybe. Looks like there is a significant amount of people that would like to see us do some tournaments, so that I will try to get some going in the future!

I think we’ll need the forum set up first before we can do tournaments though, just so it’s easy for people to communicate with each other.

Not many people seem to be using Twitter. You should start using it! It’s a great service, at first I wasn’t too keen on it but I’ve grown to like it.

Most people that come here also visit Pokébeach.com, Pokégym.net, and Go-Pokémon.com.

61% said they would be interested in a T-shirt, so I will try to make that happen! They are going to look cool, I have a design in mind but I need to look into the logistics of T-shirt printing first.

Do we need a message board? 45% Yes, 15% No, 41% Not Sure. Well we’ll try it out in the near future and see how it goes. :)

Only 6% are interested in premium/paid content (with 27% Maybe), which is honestly about what I expected. That’s totally fine, I just thought I’d throw that question out there. The site will keep running how it is with free content. I probably wouldn’t want to pay for anything either.

However if any highly ranked player out there wants to sell a decklist or strategy guide for an upcoming tournament, I would offer it to everyone. I’m not talking no name players either, I mean really legit people who have played highly or even won Regionals, Nationals, and Worlds.

Ok now for the fill in the blank responses…

What do you like about 6p?
The general consensus seems to be that people like the articles, the atmosphere, and that the discussions are intelligent. I haven’t really been on any other Pokémon forums lately, but are the conversations really that bad?

Forums used to be great back in the day, but it seems like now that most of the good players don’t really help out any more. People seem to be more competitive than they were in the past, and don’t want to share ideas in a public setting. I used to do that too, but looking back on it, it wasn’t really fun doing that and I don’t think it’s good for the game either. The prizes that Pokémon gives out are not worth getting all fussed up about either.

People seem to like deck analysis and strategy articles best. I’ll try to keep them coming. :)

Everyone also seems to like the personal aspect of the site. I really have made an effort to try and make it more intimate. Not many other sites out there do videos and show you some of their personality. I think more sites should do that.

What do you not like?
I was hoping you guys would be harsh here…let’s see what you said.

The site layout.
– I’ve tried to improve it as the site has developed. What specifically do you guys not like? I feel like it’s as clean as its ever looked. Do you mean the navigation or how things are placed? Fonts? Colors? Just let me know, we can discuss how to make it better.

Lack of new posts.
– Yea I admit there are times when there aren’t enough new posts. I had lots of time during the summer, but with school it’s tough sometimes. I do get article submissions which help, but unfortunately I can’t post all of them. You guys really need to proofread your articles, I just don’t have time to edit your punctuational and grammatical mistakes.

Some of the articles I get have questionable content too. Like the decklist obviously looks like it hasn’t been tested out or tested against any decent deck. Please e-mail me if your article is not posted and I will tell you why and what you can do to fix it.

“Newsletter pop-up every time you go on the site.”
– If this is you, you need to enable cookies. You should only see it the first time you ever come to the site and that’s it. :)

Seeing a few “difficult to navigates”. I have Categories set up for everything, all posts have tags on them. I try to tag things well. Like if a post has a decklist, I will give it the tag “decklist”. If you click that, all posts with decklists will come up. There is also a search button. But obviously something is still confusing if multiple people are saying this…let me know exactly what could be changed/amended.

Slow loading times.
-I will probably have to get new hosting in the future. The site is growing fast and I am not totally happy with the current host I’m using, they do seem kinda slow. Unfortunately this is not within my budget now. :(

Not enough people.
-With due time! I think having a forum will get more people to the site.

YouTube videos too long.
-I’ll try to make the videos shorter…it’s just a lot harder than you think to say what you win in a short amount of time. Pokémon is a deep game!

How can the site be improved?
A lot of people saying to change the site design. Again, tell me how you want it to look and I’ll try to do it. :)

Premier event info on the front page: Great idea, just not sure how to fit it. Maybe I could make a calendar? I’ll look into this.

6P Decklist Program: That would be gnarly if I knew how to make one. What I do think would be cool is a decklist database, like the website deckcheck.net. I would love to offer something like that. :) Again I am honestly not real computer savvy and could not make that myself.

Sign into account on front page: Yeah I could stick something on the right sidebar so you can sign in, it will probably be toward the bottom.

Other Pokémon TCG News: Seems like people want to discuss other news here. I guess once I get the forum up, you can link to news on other sites and talk about them here then? I am admittedly not on top of the latest news, other site are much better at that than I am. I try to keep the twitter updated with the latest from other sites though.

“Daily booster pack give away” – Maybe if Pokémon supplied me with packs to give away…

“Remove the ads” – I don’t get paid for this, I need some way to pay for hosting and the newsletter and the booster box I gave away. :)

More admins…Jeremy left and I haven’t heard from Pablo in a while. Right now it’s just me.

Most people again are saying to improve site design…just tell me what you would like to be different.

Overall thanks for all the support everyone, you guys left a lot of kind words. :)

I know this post is somewhat sporadic, but please try to give me some more specific input. Make me a “To Do” list for the site…that’s how I usually get stuff done. Otherwise I won’t know what to do.

Leave some comments and discuss what exactly I should do from here. :) Thanks.

check out http://www.bulbagarden.net and read about the next TCG Expansion, HG & SS. There are no more Lv.Xs, they have been replaced by cards called Pokemon Prime, which are supposed to be as powerful as Lv.Xs, just more flexible. Trainer cards are no longer called trainer cards, instead they are called Goods Cards. Also ther are cards called Lugia Legend and Ho-oh Legend, which are made up of two cards each. I know, its crazy…

    Content, content, content.

As long as there is interesting content, your web site can look like crap and I will keep coming back.

  4. Colin Peterik

What does that have to do with the surveys?
Anyway, Adam- I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the criticism re: the site design. This is the cleanest and most well organized pokemon site on the net. Just try going to ANY pokemon website and not finding a slew of dead links. I say if you change the format, don’t change it drastically. And as far as I’m concerned, this should only be a website for TCG. I hate going to pojo or or pokebeach and reading about new pokemon plush dolls or movies…

  5. Adam Capriola

This is just the impressions I got as a whole from the surveys.

I am completely open to any criticism, just tell me what to fix. Anyone out there that filled out the survey, seriously, let me know exactly what to fix.

And thanks for the kind words Colin. :)

I for one believe that if you really wanna run this like a well oiled machine, you need more staff. Seek people willing to give a bit of their free time to do something for the site [Myself, I dont know how good of an article person I could be…] and just give them thanks, a piece of the credits.

As for the shirts, you dont wanna get into trouble with TCPI [I know since I do commissions for custom playmats]… but it would be a nice way to help the site grow if you actually setup a real Street Team.

The sidebar could be a little more clean, try to take out some aspects like top commentators, Author Archives, Recent Comments… Popular Posts is BORDERLINE, so keep it for now.

    • Eelis Peltola  → Jaime

On the sidebar: Top Commentators is kinda useless, although fun for the ones on the list. That and Author Archives should go, I agree with that. Popular Posts is borderline.
Recent Comments on the other hand is very useful for seeing if anyone has commented on an old post, it should definetly stay. The way it’s done now makes it vulnerable for the comments on old posts to dissapear from the list when a new post is made. It should be changed somehow… maybe just listing the authors and what post the comment is on? That way there would be more space for the comments…

If you’re going through an article drought, I’ve got a couple that I’ve been wanting to write for a while. I just thought you were spacing things out for some reason.

Just a quick pop-in before I get back to homework…

@jaimonster: The shirts would have no Pokemon reference on them so there wouldn’t be an issue, they would just say Six Prizes Dot Com on them in a cool logo. Maybe have a catchphrase on them too, I dunno for sure. But def no Pokemon logos or anything.

I changed the recent comments to just show who commented on what and upped to to the last 10 comments. Hope that looks a little cleaner.

Also changed the top commentators to the people from the last month, so hopefully that’s better. Gives more people a chance to get on the list. :)

I’ll read your responses more in depth later, gotta do other stuff right now tho.

aw man, just as I had eclipsed the 100 post mark…ah well, seems like a good idea to refresh it.

I’m hoping winter break and all the city tournies will bring a slew of good content :)

  15. Chris Ross

One thing I would love to see is decklists that let you view every card I’m kinda new to pokemon and i don’t know what a lot of the cards do so if there was an easy way to see the cards I would love that.

hey Adam, if you need any help with extra admins, I usually have ample freetime on my hands and a great love for 6P, shoot me an email if you want to work something up! (I’m at NIU right now so my internet isn’t always on hand, but I’ll be home tuesday). This survey was a great idea– be sure to check out my profit video this evening where I say some kind words about the site! Hopefully I can attract some more people!

Just added a log-in form to the sidebar, it’s right above the archives. Hope that helps with functionality. :)

I think Popular Posts is good for the sidebar just so that when new people come to the site, they can see where the most discussion has been. Those are usually the best articles to check out.

Author Archives doesn’t take up much space and I think it’s kinda cool…you can see articles by specific articles as the name implies haha. I like it.

Top Commentators is just designed to get people to comment more. I’m having it reset every month so now new people will have a chance to get on it. I should have done that much earlier on, but oh well.

@Mach, I saw your article in the queue, I will take a look at it soon and get it up. I haven’t read it yet but your articles are always good, so there should be no issue in getting it up. Look for it on Tuesday.

@Chris: That would be sweet if I could do that. The Magic site deckcheck.net is cool because they have deck lists and you can just hover over the card and it shows the picture. Setting up something like that would take an insubordinate amount of work though.

@J-Wittz, ya man that would be cool if you could help out. I’ll make you an editor and let you know what articles need grammatical editing. Dave has also volunteered to help out. If you guys could just check for grammar that would be great because then I could just add the pictures and take care of the technical stuff.

Let me know when your video is uploaded and I’ll post it on the site. :)

Oh,another thing, Adam, if you need me to, I can do some editing, too. I’ve got about 2 hours every day where it’s just pure free time, and sometimes more than that.

  27. I would rather visit a site with more ads if it means faster loading times, more contests and better forum software. If I am logged in I don’t think I need the sidebar asking me to sign up for the newsletter since most people who log in would be signed up for the newsletter already. Could you eliminate that? Thank you for the thorough clarification in your post. I like the recent changes to the site. :)

  28. Adam Capriola

@Mach thanks for volunteering! I will let you know if I need the help, I should be good with J-Wittz and Dave for now but will keep you in mind. :)

@WDIF I put any money I make on the site right back into it, so I will get better hosting and the forum up soon hopefully.

I can’t eliminate the newsletter thing, it’s something that just stays there. There is no way for me to know who has or hasn’t signed up. Only thing I could maybe do is have the Fader pop-up every time you visit the site until you sign up…but I don’t want to force people to sign up.

I have a way we could raise the money for the forum within a day if everyone were to go along with it, but I need to check into some technical matters before I can say what it is.

I actually already somewhat secretly tried to start this initiative, but it didn’t work as I’d hoped.

  29. Adam Capriola

err scratch that about the newsletter form…I actually do know a way I can make it go away after you visit the site X number of times.

I kinda hate to totally eliminate the form, but I can at the very least cut the wording down so it takes up less space.

EDIT: Ok I fixed it, let me know if that’s better. :) After you visit 15 times, you’ll get the brief message. 15 visits will happen within your first week of coming to the site, so that should be an ok number. I could lower it though.

I had a Myspace page made for the site but never told anyone about it…so if you use Myspace you can now become our friend! http://www.myspace.com/sixprizes

I also added Tweet and Share icons to the top right of ever post, so you can conveniently share any stories you think are interesting. :) It also gives the count of how many times the story has been shared.
