Lacey, WA CC’s Report

I know it’s a little late, but this is my report for the Lacey CC’s hosted at Gabi’s Olympic Cards & Comics.
I’m running a Gengar deck right now and this is how I did:

Round 1 VS. Sheila R. (Gengar)
Gengar Stormfront SF 18 Pokemon CardIt was a mirror match and she was a pretty good competitor. It ended up going to time and I was 1 Prize up, but by some misunderstanding she ended up taking her next turn, after I had finished mine, and Knocked Out one of my Pokémon. When the judge came over to our table she saw that we were tied in prizes, and since I wasn’t sure of the rules regarding ending a game when time is called, I just continued to play. I ended up winning anyway by taking the next prize, overall it was a really fun game.
(1-0)

Round 2 VS. Ted B. (Gengar)
Another mirror match, and again he’s a great player. We were pretty closely tied for a bit, but I ended up drawing my last prize and winning the game.
(2-0)

Round 3 VS. Jim L. (Regigigas SP’s)
This was a really interesting game because I had never played against this deck before. He had the SP Regigigas that does so much damage based on how many different types of SP’s that he had in play, and naturally he had a bench full of different types. I did manage to kill his Regigigas twice but he was pretty good about bringing him back fast and being able to do about 120 per turn to me…so I lost pretty hard, but it was a really fun game. :)
(2-1)

Round 4 VS. Mike M. (Leafeon/Sceptile)
Mike’s a good friend of mine, and it was a pretty fun game but I ended up taking it pretty quickly because he couldn’t get setup in time. I felt bad to have won like that, but I guess that’s just how it is sometimes.
(3-1)

Round 5 VS. Kenny W. (SP’s-Luxray/Infernape/Dialga/Garchomp)
Mewtwo LV.X Legends Awakened LA 144 Pokemon CardMy fiance…I swear we play each other at every event we go to. We’re pretty evenly matched in skill.

This was a pretty intense game because we were playing to see who would make the top cut…and who would be walking home that night, lol. We were both playing competitively and it was pretty close for a while. I think the only thing that saved me was that I had a 1-1 line of Mewtwo in my deck to counter his SP’s. Time was called and I was either 1 or 2 Prizes up and I ended up in the top 4 along with Ross C., Zane N., and David C.
(4-1) Yay!

Top Cut – Game 1 VS. Ross C. (Luxray/Garchomp)
He annihilated me. I’m not even exaggerating, he’s an incredible player and not to mention I couldn’t draw into anything I needed. I tried to draw it out a little just to hold onto that last little bit of hope, but when he got down to his last 2 Prizes, I conceded.

Top Cut – Game 2 VS. Ross C. (Luxray/Garchomp)
He annihilated me. I did better this time though! I lasted until he took his last prize because I didn’t want to call it and just give it to him in case I had any chance at saving myself…it didn’t happen though.
Again, he’s a great player, very calculated.

Everyone I played that day was a good sport and I had a lot fun.
Besides, being able to make the top cut and win a few packs was more than I had expected, so I was happy. :)

  1. What kind of Gengar deck were you playing? Did you utiliize the one from Stormfront? Or did you use the “hit and run” strategy with Gengar and Spiritomb (or Mr. Mime MT) from Arceus?

this is why i think deck list should be posted.depending on what gengar was played can change the entire idea of the deck.
      great report though.

If it was the Arceus Gengar not SF did you face an DP Duscknoir techs? That seems like it just ruins that deck.

Nice report! I am actually not sure if it was Gengar SF, I just assumed it was so I put a picture of it in the article…if I’m wrong let me know. :)

  3. Good job, sucks to have to verse your Fiance every event :\

Well, like you said, you top cutt’ed in a T4, so that alone is something to be proud of :)

It’s always good to see what decks are doing well in different tournaments, short and to the point article, does what it intended. Looks like a few different deck ideas with Regigigas SP and Sceptile/Leafeon that I haven’t been seeing any where her in Southeast PA.

I hate having to play against my girlfriend, if I lose, I’m upset cause I lost, if I win, I feel like crap that I beat her lol.
    Lose/Lose situation =/

  10. That’s true kwisdumb, I never really realized the diverse decks in this tournament report.

I think the Regigigas FB deck could be good, maybe paired with an Electivire FB Lv. X?

Might be too slow for an SP deck, but it could be a fun deck idea.

I agree. I think that once DCE is released we could see a lot more of regigigas FB. Combined with call energy, Garchomp C lvx, power spray and energy gain a formidable combo deck could be formed. It could be fast, powerful and hit the bench. Who knows?

I use regigigas with alakzam 4, hes a decent flygon counter and can work against anyone. Though there are better sps out there.

Yeah I guess I should have specified on which Gengar I used, but it was the Stormfront one.
    And @ Jexar: Yeah it’s lame :P

Also, the Regigigas was just a tech, meant to capitalize on the rainbow of SP pokes. It wasn’t the main focus of the deck AFAIK.

  28. It stinks that you had to play Ross C., he’s a really good player. I like Gengar to because if your facing Beedrill the other player have to risk Fainting Spell. One time I won against a Beedrill with Expert Belt because I got heads on Fainting Spell.
    8.5/10

    Great Job!!!!!!!

What I want to know is why must I care? I mean, not to say that what you have got to say is not significant, but I mean, its so generic. Everyone’s referring to this dude. Give us something extra, some thing that we can get behind so we can become as zealous about this as you do.

I really believe the data mentioned in the subject is top notch. I am performing a study concerning the topic and your journal truly explained a lot of issues I had. I am doing an essay and term paper for my English class and currently studying quite a few weblogs to review.
