Heart Gold / Soul Silver Prereleases This Weekend

Just incase you have been living under a (Regi)rock…Heart Gold / Soul Silver Pokémon TCG Prereleases begin this weekend. You can find out if there is one near you on Pokémon.com.

You have to type in your zip code and select your country, then probably adjust the “Distance within” and uncheck “Leagues” before you search. On the old site it was nice because they had a page listing all the prereleases…now you actually have to search. Not a good move in my opinion, but hopefully everyone is able to figure it out.

Pokébeach is supposed to have pictures up sometime tonight and they have the set list up already. From what I hear, the set is going to be lackluster save for a few holos and trainers. You can take a look at the cards and make judgment yourself.

I’ll be attending the prerelease in Blue Bell, PA on Saturday, so say hey if you see me. :)

  1. cant WAITTTT i wonder when it will be realease in indonesia though..

    Good:
    – The new energy cards are awesome looking
    – The trainers and special energy seem to be semi-useful on average
    – A few of the Pokemon PRIME seem useful

    Bad:
    – The new energy cards probably won’t come in reverse holo
    – So many useless rares and foils
    – Legend Pokemon are not as potent as some people think
    – Double weakness means quicker knock outs, which means shorter games
    – Blissey PRIME has the 2nd lowest HP of all the pokemon PRIME
    – The loss of interesting cards like Crobat PRIME

I’ll probably just buy singles online + any tins they release.

It looks like the Trainers still say “Trainer” on them!!!

this set looks really weak…probably 3-5 usable/notable cards in all. aw well, looks like DCE went unchanged as was supposed, at least that single-handedly changes the format a bit.

  8. I like you “quaziko” am not too thrilled with this new set, nothing really stands out like previous sets i’m rather disapointed to be honest. Ninetails will probebly take the place of claydol/uxie and DCE will be nifty, but I’m extreamly hesitant to get excited about anything “groundbreaking” coming for a while…

  9. Cards that will be game changing in HGSS:
    Donphan PRIME (Donk Tank)
Blissey PRIME (Healing low energy decks)
Ampharos PRIME (Great tech, decent attack)
Feraligatr PRIME (WIll most def become a top archetype)
Pokemon Communicator (Oh god… Such a broken card.)
Pokemon Reversal (Again.. Broken. Gust of Wind is back! (Kind of)).
    DCE (yes.)
    Ninetails (mm hmm.)
Jumpluff (1G for a max of 120 sounds pretty nifty).
Cards that I feel have potential:
    Slowbro (3 P for 90? 4 for 110? 5 for 130? Yes please!)
Granbull (LOVE THIS CARD… With Belt, 70 for DCE, switch to the bench and take 20.. Do this 4 times and then hit for 140 before going down. Such a cool card..)
Arcanine (Very decent anti-Dialga tech. Virtually splashable. 50 for (F)(C) and no drawback.. Plain and simple.)
Metapod (Will be teched into grass decks once Fire becomes as popular as we think it will).
Some of the new “babies” are intriguing as well, most notably:
Cleffa (Does anyone remember the nearly identical card from Neo-Genesis??)
Pichu (Playground will be fantastic with Jumpluff…)
Smoochum (Force discards on Unown G, or just screw with your opponent…)
Fisherman and Collector are also great new cards that will make certain deck mechanics run more smoothly.
Noctowl (Draw a card every turn, halfway decent attack)

Not to mention the cards look SO SLICK, the artwork is the best yet for sure.. Sure out of the ones I’ve listed only a handful might ACTUALLY find competitive play, but I’m willing to bet at least half of them will, and that is enough to support a great set, which I think this certainly is.
Just read Pokemon Reversal ONE MORE TIME……… Yeah………

Donphan PRIME – 2x weakness to water hurts a lot, especially with Kingdra, Palkia G and possibly the most popular PRIME in the set, Feraligatr PRIME.

Blissey PRIME – SP decks already have PokeTurn, and Nidoqueen does decent healing and doesn’t require bouncing or removal of energy.

Ampharos PRIME – With Energy Gain and Double Colorless energy, Ampharos’ body won’t be doing that great of damage. I don’t think it will be that great of a tech.

Feraligatr PRIME – Good card all around. Weakness to grass is much better than weakness to lightning.

Pokemon Communication – Time will tell.

Pokemon Reversal – On par with PokeBlower+ for level of usefulness. Time will tell how popular it will be.

      DCE – Yes.

Ninetails – Only useful in fire decks. Even then, only useful in fire decks that can recycle fire energy. Pretty much, only useful with 1 or 2 pokemon. :/

Jumpluff – I like the card a lot, but it has iffy parts to it. Probably will see play.

The rest of your choices – yucky cards. Barely going to have an effect on the format (minus fisherman).

        Um……..

Great Donphan = Faster and more efficient than Kingdra.

Great Blissey = as aforementioned, good healing for LOW energy decks. Needs to be used correctly.

        DCE = obvious

Great Feraligatr = Vulnerable to Gardellade (Which WILL make a return to some extent, at least in my area). Attack sucks. Needs to be paired with something. Hmmm……

To anyone that played when DP first came out, how was the energy distributed in that set? Did it replace a common, or..? I love that energy, can’t wait to pull me some.

This set does look pretty lackluster, though. However, I can’t seem to spend less on any given set no matter how bad the set looks. =[ Pokecrack, I tell you.

I forget how it worked…I know Darkness and Metal Energies were sorta hard to pull though.

      You best be trollin’, sir.

In any case, went to a prerelease Saturday. Although following my usual terrible pulls in my initial six packs, I walked away with this:
      3x Donphan Prime
      2x Feraligatr Prime
      1x Typhlosion Prime
      3x Ninetails
      2x Pokémon Collector
      4x Pokémon Communication

Donphan, Gatr, and Typhlosion all look to be big pieces of good decks. Right now, I’m making Donphan rush as soon as I get the last Donphan in the mail. :] 1 for 60 is absolutely brutal. Additionally, hoarding Ninetails is good because I’m confident that that will be Charizard’s drawing engine of choice.

    Nice haul Politoed!!

I pulled a Donphan Prime in my initial 6 packs, so my deck was basically Donphan and stuff to try to get it out…I got it out 3 games, so I went 3-1. Couldn’t draw it the one game. :(
