  1. I think the Feraligatr Prime is also going to show up at a few states to, maybe it might even make top cut. Donphan Prime, I think is going to win a few states. You can also use Donphan Prime with Expert Belt, which I think every Donphan deck is going to have.

    Nice video as ALWAYS!

Sweet vid j-Wittz, I thought Typhlosion would be higher in your rankings though

  3. Adam Capriola

Nice video man! Was that one of your roommates in the background on the computer? I thought it was kinda weird that he was there…lol.

I don’t think I like Ampharos as much as you do, but that is cool that the body is stackable. I never really took that into consideration…that might make it playable.

    • Matthew Riddle  → Adam

The entire Ampharos line has some great energy acceleration. Ampharos’ (non-PRIME) Acceleration Bolt attack can attach an extra 2 basic energy (from the deck) a turn and do 30 (or 50 with expert belt). Mareep’s Static Electricity attack is a guaranteed extra energy attachment (from the deck) and possibly even more than 1 energy depending on how many other mareep are in play (both players). Team it up with SW/POP Flaffy that can use Attract Current to deal 10 damage and attach an extra energy (from the deck as well) and you have an entire evolution line of energy acceleration.

I’m still iffy on whether it is worth getting out multiple Ampharos PRIME though.

  4. Yeah i agree the option to stack makes it seem pretty nifty but I’m not sure i would run any of the primes to be honest. Excellent video though! And i’m submitting my decklist right now for the DCE contest.

  5. Joshua Hall

The sad thing about all the cool poke-bodies that seem usable is that they can all be easily countered by Dialga G Lv.X, common in SP decks, and usable as a tech in any deck. In all, Feraligatr and Donphan are definitely the top contenders as you pointed out.

    Nice vid!

  6. Matthew Riddle

I like these videos but JWittz, you gotta work on the editing of the video/audio so that they match up better. There were too many instances of an explanation being slightly misunderstood because your hands were doing something totally different.

Also, Donphan PRIME is weak to Water, not Grass, and that makes a huge difference as there are almost a handful of powerful Water pokemon that it could encounter at States.

    • J-Wittz  → Matthew

I understand your concern. Here’s the issue:
I try and put these episodes together as quickly as possible in the short amount of time I have while also being a student. This includes me trying to film long segments with the cards in one take. Filming each individual movement would take a very long time, and it would be just too hard and frustrating for me to keep up to my weekly episode release along with keeping up with schoolwork and my job. Over breaks and summer I have all the time in the world to make nice crisp episodes, but right now with school in full swing I don’t have the time to cut up the video and rehash it. I’ll try more with the time that I do have to keep up the quality though, and I’ll try and film episodes across a couple of days instead of all right before I release them, too.

      –J-Wittz

      • Matthew Riddle  → J-Wittz

I think having a still frame between dialogue that could “pause” the video at times to allow for the audio to catch up with it would be a decent way of alleviating this problem.

I hate to play devil’s advocate here, but I must ask this question.

If you don’t feel like you can produce the best quality product given your schedule, why are you willing to settle with a lesser quality product? I know you want to give back to the community some how, but if these videos are not a proper representation of you and your thoughts, why settle for less?

I really like your videos, but if your schedule and other responsibilities are getting in the way of producing a better product, maybe you should reconsider your plan for this product.

      • Mark Stroup  → J-Wittz

        I don’t care because it’s not a big deal.
I appreciate your hard work to do this and let us know what you think; helping everyone.
It’s pretty much beyond my comprehension that anyone can find anything wrong or anything to do better with these videos.

      •  → J-Wittz

Yeah Josh these vids are awesome just the way they are. I recently introduced my friend to Pokemon TCG and he has learned a lot through your vids. Who cares if they are a LITTLE out of sync. You’re really doing a service to the community.

  7. Yeah, with Ampharos PRIME just adds more crazy strategies for Ampharos players. The PL and SW ones are good on their own, so it should be interesting seeing the different strategies implemented at State’s.

I don’t think Donphan PRIME will be all that great, although I agree it will see a lot of play most likely.

Oh, and he’s weak to Water not Grass.

      • Matthew Riddle  → J-Wittz

I disagree. There is only two grass threats in the format at States; Beedrill and Jumpluff. Beedrill has died down a whole lot since Battle Roads and didn’t win a single City Championship (in Masters at least). Jumpluff has some hype around it, but it isn’t an established deck yet.

Water on the other hand has been popular since Platinum with the release of Palkia and the emergence of Gyarados SF and the return of Kingdra. Between those 3 decks, around 20 City Champions were won. Toss in a relatively new card, Feraligatr PRIME, and I think there are a lot of water threats out there.

With double weakness, any dangerous weakness is now a huge liability. You can’t afford to attach an expert belt to Donphan against these decks, and maxing out at 60 damage doesn’t cut it late game. People expect Donphan to take the game early, but against decks like Kingdra, Gyarados, and Palkia/etc, which are all quick decks, I don’t see the game ending quickly.

    I’ll answer your proposals.

If the quality of the videos was truly terrible, then I wouldn’t release them weekly. However, they aren’t, and you’re the only person who has ever complained about the way I have presented them. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing–I was surprised how little criticism I’ve gotten over the months, but this is still the only time I’ve heard someone complain.

There’s a difference between properly representing my thoughts and just not having time to edit perfectly. All of my thoughts are in the script, which is delivered line for line no matter how the video syncs to it. If it wasn’t helping the community people wouldn’t be watching, or they would complain more and I’d HAVE to change things.

I think the once a week release is a good pattern, and if the quality really drops through that then people would stop watching. But this week I got more subscribers than ever before and more people continue to come to me with pms on getting into the game, praise, and overall satisfaction with the show.

And if anybody is having complaints like MatthewR is, feel free to address them to me! Just because you didn’t like something doesn’t mean I’ll all of a sudden hate you :P.

    • Matthew Riddle  → Josh

I’m not complaining. All I said was that the editing of the audio/video needed some work.

I never said your videos weren’t helping the community.

You made more comments about the quality of your product than I did. “I try and put these episodes together as quickly as possible…This includes me trying to film long segments with the cards in one take.” That is the only reason I asked if it was worth it, since it seemed like you realized you were rushed to put them together and may not be producing the quality of product you would have preferred.

I am expressing my opinion, and I understand you respect it, but I kind of feel like you’re making me out to look like the bad guy when my initial comments were 100% valid and in no way disrespectful.

      • Josh Wittenkeller  → Matthew

It’s kind of hard to take a comment about being a devil’s advocate without feeling like the intention was a little negative. Things get lost in translation sometimes, and I felt the need to defend myself on those grounds. No harm intended, man :D.

  15. Josh Wittenkeller

Also, with the whole water/grass weakness thing, you’re probably right. I forgot about Gyarados (which will be huge), palkia lock is definitely dieing, and kingdra will be moderate. I’m assuming tons of people will bring jumpluff because he’s new and exciting, and beedrill seems to be jumping up in popularity here in the midwest because most SPs are dropping the Blaziken FB out of their deck. It depends on the area, but with pokemon collector out and gyarados, water probably IS worse.
