Shuppet Donk players have a little to be excited about with the release of HeartGold & SoulSilver. Their favorite puppet Pokémon gets a BFF to help expose colorless weaknesses. The new ally is Dunsparce from HGSS, which has a “Fade Out” attack of its own.
The downside to Dunsparce is that it deals 10 less damage than Shuppet’s version of the attack. This might be a problem if you find yourself starting with Dunsparce and you end up being just 10 damage short of a “donk.” However, there are far worse techs to start with than Dunsparce (I’m looking at you Unown G) since its second attack can take itself out of play. Then you can make the swap back to Shuppet your next turn.
Although I think the “10 less” aspect fades quickly when you go up against Flygon, Garchomp, or even Salamence and all of a sudden Dunsparce’s “Fade Out” is increased by +30 or X2. It’s very possible to have a fresh Flygon go down with a “Fade Out” + 1 “Flash Bite” from Crobat G. It’s kind of ironic that even less is needed to take down the Level X.
Dunsparce’s C energy requirement allows it to coexist with Shuppet since it can also use Psychic Energies. My good friend and frequent poster here, SMGausch, reminded me that C energy costs can and should also be exploited with special energies, specifically Cyclone Energies. His idea becomes even more ingenious when you realize that you can utilize a Cyclone Energy every turn since you’re constantly picking it back up. It’s like having an Infernape 4 LV.X using “Intimidating Roar” every turn without the risk of being Power Sprayed. This is a fantastic counter to Mr. Mime MT and Spiritomb AR, which give Shuppet decks so much grief (and help). If your opponent tries to get cute and put out something you wouldn’t mind Knocking Out, you can always go back to the searchable Psychic Energy.

Nice Article! Dunsparce could really help Shuppet decks play much better against Flygon!

I’ve been testing this a lot against Lux Chomp and Flygon/Queen and those match-ups were usually about 25% chance of winning for me, now it’s more like 90%. I used to struggle getting the OHKO on Chomp C and Flygon.I I didn’t get the OHKO they would just Dragon Breath, rotate out Flygon for another allowing Queen to heal or poketurn/SSU and my time and resources would be wasted. Gotta Run at least one, and I like 1 cyclone in place of a warp point or anything non essential, sure you cannot search it with Rosy’s, but you can with double drawer’s and when you have it you can exploit it.
All decent Shuppet builds have 4 Drawers. You can’t really search out Warp Points any other way (Chatot G I guess:/) and you’ll be able to use the Cyclone more than once!

Actually, it’s better than that. Cyclone Energy is great for Dunsparce (or Uxie which can always attack in a pinch).
You have to play Dunsparce on your bench before retreating someone else to allow Dunsparce to attack. That means you always have the choice to Cyclone or not. Attach Cyclone Energy on the bench before the retreat to cancel its effect. Retreat first to use the effect. It’s that easy.

ugghh just when I thought that Shuppet was gone for good. haha. My brother will probably be trying this out. He used to play Shuppet but gave up on it after a while.
SMGausch
Yeah, I keep trying to talk myself out of playing it, but it can beat just about everything. It two shots Spiritomb and as long as I don’t face more than two I can get through them. Banette SW takes care of 1 Mime and as long as they don’t have one active one on the bench you can warp or always blower. Shuckle SW is much more playable with dubs, and now with dunsparce you exploit two popular weaknesses. Mr, Junior and G’d Crobat+weakness make Machamp beatable. Dialga G just sucks, but they run lots of techs so a donk is possible with some luck.
SMGausch
Plus dunsparce is superior to shuppet in that if you start a game with him and don’t feel like playing you can just fade out and lose.

The cyclone combo is pretty sweet. Unless the opponent has 2 of the same pokemon, you can do some damage every turn.
I think Shuppet Donk is one of those decks that can’t be tech’d for forever. Decks will have to worry about new competitive ideas and once they drop their cover, BANG BOOM STRAIGHT TO THE MOON!
Adam Capriola
I really like the Cyclone combo with Dunspace. I really want to try Shuppet out now, I think it can be really good. Donking is always potent.

Well, Shuppet sure just got a little bit better, for all the reasons mentioned. However, there are few people who have the guts to bring in a shuppet-type deck into a tournament as big as states or regionals, as even the good ones rarely make it all the way through. It seems that without a good hand, a Shuppet deck just folds immediately, not to mention cards that can hurt it like TGW or Looker’s.
At least they made a good Dunsparce again :)

I like Aipom with DCE better. Although he takes 2C to do his “fade out” style attack, he has 60 hp which makes him a much better starter. Shuppet and Dunsparce both have 50 hp so adding in Dunsparce to the deck increases the chance of getting KO’d by Sableye.
The Cyclone Energy is a great idea.

I don’t think PLOX automatically shuts down Shuppet. While you can put an end to the Crobat G and Uxie drops by turn 2, that may already be too late. Especially when you consider that most of what’s in PLOX has a Psychic weakness.
I will admit that cards like TGW and Looker’s Investigation greatly hinder Shuppet decks. Although I wonder if people will get selfish and turn to the new Supporters from HGSS (Copycat and Professor Oak’s New Theory) in order to get a larger hand once they shuffle.

I played 4 games the other night against a Flygon/Queen deck with lookers and amime tech’d for shuppet. I won all of them easily. Weakness helped me, and even when they used looker’s an uxie, roseanne’s, or a pokedex handi 910i was all I needed to jump start my hand and get going. If Plox and a hit and run attack so you could power and trainer lock it would be real tough to beat, but on or the other only mildly hurts you.
SMGausch
I used to play Plox all the time and tested heavily against shuppet. I got donked 50+ percent of the time and a lot of those were even with two pokemon in play, the weakness hurts. Spiritomb helps, but its still not a great match-up unless you start with one.

In addition to Team Galactic Wager, there is also the great “executioner” for Shuppet is Diala G “deafen, deafen, deafen, dialga g LV.X stopping pokebody finally Shuppet really like, but at no time, even in Dunsparce game is not enough to beat Dialga G. Lamar Great article!
Yeah Shuppet needs some luck when it comes to Dialga G. Shuppet players have to hope to go second and that the Dialga player gets either an Unown G or Lucario GL start with no Calls.

Good use of dunsparce. The 10 less damage does hurt though, but as you say you can use special energies then.
In the long run I dont expect it to have a huge effect on the deck, but its a nice change of pace.

I have already added Dunsparce to my shuppet deck, but loving the cyclone energy! I have also teched a Regice LA to my deck to send spirtomb back to the bench. I also have spiritomb LA in my deck to move the damage that Diagla G does when it deafens, in hopes of making the other play use second strike instead, so I can use some trainers
jordan baker
The regice is just dead weight. cyclone energy is a much better option which wont slow down the deck as much. remember shuppet is donk.

After seeing this article, I teched Dunsparce and cyclone energy into my Shuppet deck. I was able to get in 3 games with it at league this evening. Most notable for this discussion was a game versus a Spiritomb/Dusknoir Lv.X/Gallade 4 Lv.X deck. Just as expected, Dunsparce is able to use the cyclone energy to pay for its attack and it forces Spirtiomb or Dusknoir to the bench, but unexpected was the resistance that both of these cards have to normal type pokemon. This was an issue for me, because I failed to attach my expert belt and plus powers before attaching the cyclone energy to send Dusknoir to the bench. Of course my opponent sent up Spiritomb. I like the combo and just need a bit of play time with it to get used to the nuances that this change brings to my deck.
Again, nice suggestion and article.

So this card could fit in almost every deck due to the any energy use for fade out. Well I think this idea has the most potential i have seen in a long time

This is obtaining a bit much more subjective, but I much choose the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has a lot more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you speedily see associated albums, songs, or other users connected to what you’re listening to. Clicking on 1 of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will occur into view, allowing you to navigate close to exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” can be good enjoyable, letting you discover others with shared tastes and becoming close friends with them. You then can listen to some playlist produced based on an amalgamation of what all your close friends are listening to, which can also be enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will probably be relieved to learn you’ll be able to prevent the public from seeing your individual listening habits in case you so pick.
