Garchomp Ampharos…

This is my first time making an article for 6prizes. The deck that I am currently running is Garchomp and Ampharos. This is my first post ever so I’m not sure if it will get posted, but I really hope it does.

The Main Attacker:

Garchomp Supreme Victors SV 5The main focus of this deck is to bring out Garchomp as soon as possible and start hitting the opponents active with either Guard Claw or Speed Impact. Guard Claw is a Double Colorless attack and can be done on the very first turn if you were to go second. The damage of Garchomps Guard Claw is only 40, but during your opponent’s next turn, any damage done to Garchomp by attacks is reduced by 20. Speed Impact is Garchomps second attack and will be further explained in the synergy section. Garchomp also has a Poké-Body called “Dragon Intimidation”, but that too will be further explained in the synergy section.

The Supports:

Garchomp has three bench warmers. First is Ampharos from SW. This card has probably one of my favorite Poké-Bodies ever. “Jamming” is the name of the Poké-Body and its ability is that after your opponent plays a Supporter Card from his or her hand place 1 damage counter on each of your opponent’s Pokémon. This card will be further explain in the synergy section.

Ampharos Platinum PL 1 Pokemon CardThe second bench warmer is the Ampharos from PL. This Pokémon’s Poké-Body is called “Damage Bind” and its ability is that any Pokémon that has any damage counters on it cannot use any Poké-Powers. This card is only placed down when you are 100% set up or when basically Cladol’s “Cosmic Power” is no longer needed. Another case when this card must be played early is when facing a Gengar deck to prevent his Poké-Power “Shadow Room” to take your Garchomp along with him to the discard.

The third bench warmer is the newest Ampharos from the HGSS collection. His Poké-Body is “Conductivity” and whenever your opponents attaches an energy from his or her hand to 1 or his Pokémon , put 1 damage counter on that Pokémon.

The Synergy:

Ampharos Secret Wonders SW 1 Pokemon CardGarchomp SV and Ampharos HGSS make a really good couple. The reason behind this is Garchomp’s “Dragon Intimidation” allows you to choose an Energy card attached to the attacking Pokémon and put it into your opponent’s hand when Garchomp is damaged by an opponent’s attack. Ampharos HGSS Poké-Body hurts the attacking Pokémon each time they need to reattach an Energy onto their main attacking because of Garchomps Poké-Body.

Ampharos SW is the next Pokémon and with it’s “Jamming” along with Ampharos PL “Damage Bind” it is possible to lock every Poké-power your opponents have.

Example Matchup that I had:
I played against a Luxchomp deck. My opponent had Luxray and Garchomp C both on the field, but he was forced to play a Cyrus Conspiracy in order to refresh his Team Galactic Trainers. Because of this my Ampharos PL and Ampharos SW was able to lock down both his Poké-Powers “Bright Look and Healing Breath” He did manage to 1 shot my Garchomp with Lucario Gl in play making my weakness X2.

Interesting Notes:

A great way to counter against a Shuppet deck that I recently played against is with Gabite. Gabite’s second attack Sand Tomb prevents the defending Pokémon from retreating during your opponents next turn. Although it only does 30 damage preventing Mr.Mime or the even more dreaded Shuckles from retreating and having Shuppet hit you for 90+ damage makes situation of not evolving very important. The Call Energy of course can help prevent 1 turn donks usually…

Possible other techs are Garchomp LV.X. With his Poké-Power “Dragon Pulse” its possible to lock down all of your opponent’s Poké-Powers without them having to play a Supporter. I currently do not own this card so it is not in my decklist.

Heat Rotom from the Rising Rival pack could be a possible tech against Dialga LV.X , but the trouble of having him and teching in a R Energy for me seems to be too much of a hassle.

Spiritomb (AR) could be a possible tech to slow down your opponent and help you set up faster with his Poké-Body “Keystone Seal”.

I guess that is all.

Wow what an excellent observation, I would highly recommend a Dialga G tech though as it seriously damages the deck (unless you simply use amphros to battle and abuse resistance)
Teching a Garchomp Lv X and felicity's and a 0-0-1 Line of dusknoir would be awesome to see Xp

Nice article except Gengar's Poke Power is “Feinting Spell” not Shadow Room, thats his first attack lol.

Thanks for the article David! I have to say that I am not completely on board with the strategy. Your opponent can easily drop a Crobat G to shut off your Claydol if you have Ampharos PL in play. I don't think that Ampharos is the best option for the deck.

I do think Ampharos HS seems ok though. If you could get a couple in play, your opponent would be receive some serious backlash from having to attach all those energy.

So I'd say just focus on Ampharos HS and Garchomp, I don't even think I'd play Amphy SW either.

ill probably take out ampharos Sw once i get my garchomp lvx but for the ampharos pl i could just add in manetric pl or unown g i guess. I would take him out, but he saved me so many times.

xP I saw someone else suggest it first but its such a good idea. machamp could also work.

While Ampharos SW could go, I think PL really could stay. You have an Ampharos line anyways and you get to choose when to play it or not. If its not advantageous, than jsut set down another Ampharos HS. The Felicity's mentioned by Scnappy is a GREAT idea imo. Not only could it bring out a dusknoir like he said, but you can felicity to discard Ampharos PL, lvl up garchomp and use dragon pulse, than proceed to using restoring for power lock.

As for a counter f or Dialga, I just don't see how Heat Rotom will be all that effective honestly. If anything, Fire Arceus would be better IMO since it can most likely OHKO Dialga. Anyways, I tried looking around for some stage 2 fire types ^(To follow the whole Felicity/tech thing), the only one I found was maybe Blaziken PL that can do 40 for 2 colorless and blocking their retreat.

I think ampharos prime would work alot better, seeing as garchomps ability makes an energy go back to the hand. So either they will attach it back to their active and make it take 10 more damage, or they'll try to set up the backfield, making that pokemon take damage already. I wanted to make this deck for forever

  13. Eddie North

So my idea would be something like
3-2-3-1 Garchomp (Garchomp X power is amazing, and its attack too)
    3-2-3 Ampharos (1 prime, 2 jamming)
1-1 Claydol (stacking ampharos is better than 2 claydol)
1-1 Uxie (You'll have D.C. energy, so it can 1 turn attack and use its power)
    1-0-1 Exploud

    23 pokemon

    4 Roseanne
    4 Communication
    2 Bebe
    3 Candy
    1 Lux Ball
    1 Night Maintenance
    2 B.T.S
    2 Ex Belts
    1 Premier Ball
2 Lookers or judge (Hand disruption rules)
3 Super Scoop (B.T.S sets it right back up)
2 Pokemon Reversal (Swing at what you want)

    27 T/S/S

    4 Double Colorless
    2 Call
    4 Lightning

    10 Energy

Why do you even need Ampharos Prime when you have Crobat G? Doesn’t Crobat G effectively shut off powers better than Ampharos Prime?
