Hi! I’m new here and this is the first article I’ve written so any tips will be appreciated :)
Many articles recently have been on the metagame and various SP decks, so I thought I’d focus on something different.
I am aware that spread decks aren’t very popular anymore due to the number of techs that can be used against them (Manectric, Nidoqueen etc), yet I still find them incredibly fun to play. So here is my idea for an unusual one. The most common ones I’ve seen are Tyranitar and Giratina, but have you thought of the mighty Bronzong?
Decklist:
Pokémon: 21
4 Spinarak GS |
Trainers: 26
4 Bebe’s Search |
Energy: 13 |
The Strategy
pokemon-paradijs.comBronzor:
I have used this Bronzor as it has the attack “Lullaby” which for 1 energy can put the defending Pokémon to sleep. This can be useful to stall in bad situations.
Bronzong:
Bronzong has an awesome Poké-Body “Cycler” which allows you to put 1 card from your hand back into your deck and then retrieve 2 basic energy cards. This can be useful to retrieve any energy if you are short.
Bronzong has a spreading attack “Heavy Potential” for PCC which isn’t too expensive if you manage to use a Double Colourless Energy. This attack hits all of your opponents Pokémon for 10 damage for each energy in each Pokémon’s Retreat Cost. This may not sound like anything special, but when you combine it with…
Spinarak:
Unfortunately there is no better Spinarak than this.
pokemon-paradijs.comAriados:
Ariados has a Poké-Body “Sticky” which increases the Retreat Cost of every Pokémon in play by 1 energy. This will increase the damage that Bronzong’s Heavy Potential does by 10 for each Ariados in play!
If you manage to fill you bench with 3 Ariados (not too difficult considering it’s only a stage 1 Pokémon) then even on Pokémon that have free retreat you’ll be hitting 30 and on Pokémon with heavy Retreat Costs it will really hurt them.
This Poké-Body can even annoy things such as Jumpluff and some SP decks that rely on free retreat, usually meaning whatever the opponent has active is stuck there unless they manage to pull a Warp Point or Switch.
He can also provide a good secondary attacker while you are finding a new Bronzong using “Offensive Needle” for 20 damage and either paralyze or poison the opponent; 2 special conditions the opponent will not want to see.
Uxie/Claydol
Just to serve as draw power.
Miasma Valley
Each basic Pokémon played to the bench gets 20 damage if it is not a Grass or Psychic Pokémon.
This card fits perfectly into this deck as both Bronzong and Ariados are Grass and Psychic, so they will not recieve any damage when you play them! The majority of the time it will only affect the opponent and when you’re spreading it helps the damage add up nicely. 4 of these are played to keep the consistency as you want one to be in play all of the time if possible.
Warp Point/Pokémon Circulator
The Warp Points are in here so that you can swap out your Bronzong from active if you need to. (Remember any Ariados will increase it’s Retreat Cost dramatically since it already has a Retreat Cost of 3.
Warp Points and Circulators also provide a good lock on your opponents active Pokémon. If your opponent only has 1 Pokémon that he can viably attack with and cause some major damage you can use a Warp Point or Circulator to force them to switch it with something less threatening on the bench. The new pokemon will be pretty much stuck there as long as you have multiple Ariados on your bench unless they themselves can get a Switch or Warp Point.
Judge
Judge serves as a good disruption card and can also be helpful for hand renewal as only 1 Uxie is played and you preferable only want 1 Claydol on the bench so that you can have 3 Ariados and 1 more Bronzong being charged up.
Judge also provides a secondary purpose of helping Bronzong use his first attack: “Strange Spin”. This attack only does 20 damage, but if you have the same number of cards as your opponent that becomes 60 damage and the opponents Pokémon becomes confused. This is really helpful if the opponent has a strong Pokémon active which you can’t force them to switch to the bench. The confusion is nice as they will struggle to retreat out of it with Ariados in play and with the potential of getting 30 damage from trying to attack you may be able to save yourself from some nasty attacks.
Cycler also comes useful here, as if you are using Judge for hand renewal but need to keep your hand size to 4 for Strange Spin, you can attach an Energy or use a Trainer, and then use cycler to either gain or lose a card to restore your hand size to 4.
I think the rest of the cards are pretty self explanatory. It may not be the most competitive deck in the current format but it sure is fun!
Any views and opinions are appreciated!
dialga g x destroys you and it has psycic resistance
Add either a 2-2 1-1 or a 2-1 to bring in an uxie with a max. retreat of 5 and the retreat and bring in zong and destroy the bench. Good article, I like the idea
Sounds like a fun deck idea! Only glaring problem I see with it is that Flygon RR's Rainbow Float Poke-body will destroy this deck, as will cards like Moonlight Stadium for CurseGar, etc. If I had the cards for it, I'd certainly try it out.
I reccomend to take out the grass energies, there are way to many to cover for the ausence of bronzong.
With those 5 spots, i would add at least 2 switch, another uxie, and a night maintencene or palmer, also a vs seeker seems useful here. 4 bebe seems too much, i would go with 3, the same for judge, 4is too much, go with 2, and with those 3 spaces put in 3 rosseane reasearch.
Nice idea tough, i like the concept, and its cool to see different decks for a change.
@djerf & Versilaryan
I understand there are a number of bad matchups, Dialga G lv X, Flygon, Nidoqueen, Manectric, Unown G, even Bastiodon! Anything with a Bench Shield, Moonlight Stadium, Metagross UL.
However, if you are able to avoid these decks or find ways to beat them them, (Dialga G Still has a retreat cost to slowly bash away at, or if it's active you can confuse it to stall while you slowly kill it), then it is a very fun deck to play casually.
This looks like a great league deck to pass the time until worlds/next set!
Cool idea that I've definitely seen before but never really thought about until now.
3 Ariados on the bench seems like a bit much, but I suppose it could happen if you don't drop a uxie or something. Ariados and Bronzong certainly have good synergy, as you pointed out, and this deck really takes advantage of it with the judge and the miasma valley (which also counters moonlight stadium).
A tech to consider is some kind of sniper, such as drifblim FB (which can get at a nidoqueen for decent damage), or zangoose (which can pull up a heavy retreater).
Very nice article my friend!
I haven't actually tried it yet on anything but RedShark but I am intending to try it either before or after testing an Arceus Varience deck.
It does tend to be very much down to luck how many Ariados you can get out. You are right of course that preferably you'd want to keep Uxie off the bench to keep the space for Ariados.
I haven't bothered putting in any techs to combat any specific cards as there are so many terrible matchups for it, if you teched them all in you'd have no space for any Ariados or Bronzong. Therefore I have left it open so you can add in any Techs suited to your metagame.
This is the list I'll play when I build it for league use, I'm lucky where I am that currently there are none of the “bad matchup” decks currently being played by anyone apart from 1 Manectric'd T'Tar player!
Zangoose would be a good addition (or any “Drag Up” style pokemon) i hadn't thought of. It removes the element of hope and critical timing for Warp Point or Circulator which may give you the edge.
Thanks for the positive comments, I'll definitely try a Zangoose or 2 when I get round to taking it to league.
I've actually tried to play this deck a lot the past few days while the article was sitting in the submit box :P It's really strong, I eventually decided on this list:

I added a couple more options that you might think are interesting, but definitely the concept is very strong. I've beaten Luxchomps, etc all from very good players. It does have its problems against Flygon but I am really impressed by its power versus most other decks!
A guy at my league plays this kind of deck, only he uses Masquerain MT with Bronzong SF as his deck's attackers. You might want to look into it:
Masquerain HP 70
(C)(C) Centrifugal Force 20x
does 20 damage times the number of () energy in the Defending Pokemon's Retreat Cost (after applying effects to the Retreat Cost)
the potential is incredible if the defending pokemon already has a high retreat cost *cought-tarcough
just something to think about, and nice work on the article! i found it very well written.
I really like this idea for a deck, great article
This is a great article It really is! I never though spread could be that good either. I know I am mixed up here I am a little over whelmed so let me get it straight the article is great and the idea is great.
You really don't need to worry about Garchomp C because nothing it getting retreated in Sp if everything has 3-4 retreat cost. There is Poke Turn but there is no point in healing after. You can hit Nidoqueen but so it's healing won't be that effective anyway. I think you should play Reversals or something to drag it up and OHKO it because of it's weakness. I really do think this is the best spread deck I have ever seen great job! To bat the Ariados is going out of rotation. Props though!
Wow, that really is a cool deck idea and a well written article. I think Bitty hit it on the head with his confusion!
That Masquerain below is cool as well.
Also, can we quit with all of the stupid crap like “Dialga destroys you” and “Flygon shuts it down.” Being as he wrote the article, I'm sure he is well aware of that, as is EVERYONE else on this site. If he has taken the time to find these cards, don't you think he has taken the time to read Dialga and Flygon, or any other popular card out there? Make the criticism constructive, like, maybe offer a counter?
Bench shield and Manectric don't prevent putting damage counters.
Ahah yes, so it does! It only prevents damage.
That does put Tyrannitar nicely in the firing line doesn't it!
That is an interesting list you've got there. I have to admit I'm amazed you've beaten luxchomps with it!
I totally agree with dropping the Bronzong line to 3-3, with the amount of searching/drawing you can do with this deck you often don't need any more than 3.
Spiritomb is a great card to setup with (and annoy the opponent!), something I overlooked, but i should think it would be great for getting those Ariados in play early. (Seeing a Shuppet donk player trying to retreat a Mr Mime with a retreat cost of 4 and no moonlight stadium is always amusing).
Once again, i have totally forgotten about recovery cards! Palmers is a must. How could i miss out the poor guy? Though i would keep judge at 4. The strength it gives you to disrupt the opponent right from the start before getting out their claydol will often set them back 3-4 turns if you play them consecutively, especially if you've got your spiritomb active.
Call energy of course is a great card, I don't include them in my decks simply because I don't have any. There aren't many situations in which I would use one if I had it so I tend not to worry about them. However it would improve your start if you get one and a spiritomb in your starting hand.
Blaziken FB is in for luring flame? That, like the Zangoose below is a great addition to stick something useless in your opponent's active spot. After all, that is the point isn't it? To frustrate the opponent as much as possible :D That is another bonus of course of Bronzong, with Cycler you only need to play 1 fire energy as you can easily get it out.
An interesting list. It's great to know you've done so well with it!
Flygon and Moonlight Stadium do kind of drink your milkshake. Perhaps you could tech in a Lunatone and Solrock from Supreme Victors. They should improve your draw and take care of those pesky free retreaters.
You may want to consider making one of your Bronzongs the one from Majestic Dawn. With its “Cursed Alloy” Poke-Body and “Pain Amplifier” attack (free cost) would make it an ideal starting attacker to start your spread while you try to load up energies on another Bronzong.
you can use luxray to change the defending pokemon with manetric
Thanks for taking the time to write that, I found it very interesting. If you get a chance you should visit my blog as well. I hope you have a great day!
Excellent blog! I definitely love how it’s easy on my eyes and also the details are well written. I am wondering how I could be notified whenever a new post has been made. I have subscribed to your rss feed which need to do the trick! Have a nice day!
Nice share.
Im not gonna lie, youve lost me here. I know that you simply meant well and you clearly know what youre talking about, but I cant say that I get where youre coming from. If you want folks to understand your points, you should consider the other side from the argument, too. Youve got a wealth of knowledge, Ill give you that. But, pretty frankly, you turned me off with your tone.

I’m very grateful to come across this information which I had been browsing for a long time. This made me pretty thrilled… This website has provided us very practical info. Appreciate it
I love your blog very much. Keep working on it.
When I not too long ago came across your website and have been following along, I was thinking I would add my first comment. I don’t know just what to say other than I really liked reading through. Lovely writings. I am going to keep dropping by this blog on a regular basis.
I need to say, as much as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose attention after a while. Its as if you had a great grasp on the subject matter, but you didn’t remember to include your readers. Maybe you need to think about this from more than one perspective. Or perhaps you should not generalise so very much. It’s better if you take into consideration what other people might have to say instead of just going for the gut reaction on the issue. Consider adjusting your own thought process and giving other people who might go through this the benefit of the doubt.
Hi, i’ve been browsing around your blog and it seem really really neat. I’m making a family blog and struggling to make it look great. How hard was it to create your blog? Could someone like me, an amateur do that? I really wanna to make something like this. Just wanna tell u your home page seem broken when I browse using Mozilla.
