Introduction
If you are like me, you probably have many frustrations, concerns, or paranoia about the Pokémon Trading Card Game and the Pokémon Empire. For example, why was Smoochum from Undaunted a rare card????? Why would anyone create a ridiculous card like Mom’s Kindness???? We need to get to them bottom of some things, so I am composing a letter to the Pokémon Big Kahuna himself, Mr. Tsunekazu Ishihara (known by friends as “Ishy”).
I would appreciate any feedback or additional items you may want me to add to the letter, and I will let you know Ishy’s response in a few weeks. I was able to get a direct e-mail address to Ishy thanks to the Pokébeach spies embedded deep inside the regime. I appreciate their continued willingness to risk their lives for the good of all Poké-kind.
Dear Mr. Tsunekazu Ishihara, 石原恒, Supreme Ruler of All Things Pokémon :
time.comFirst of all, thank you for creating Pokémon- my children and I are all happily addicted. We spend countless hours playing Pokémon- not only the card game, but also on little Japanese-made Nintendo DS systems. As a businessman, I enjoy wasting my money on ridiculous amounts of card packs and rare Pokémon that wind up in boxes in my basement.
Also, we love Japan and all of your friendly black-haired people and appreciate your country’s contribution of Sushi, Japanese steak houses, and karate. Congratulations on your country winning the World Championships this year, and we will make sure to kick your- I mean- challenge your country next year.
I understand from Wikipedia that your favorite Pokémon is Exeggutor. He is an “egg-cellent” choice and will hopefully continue to “eggsplode” often and bring honor not only to Japan but to all countries where Pokémon enthusiasts thrive.
Enough with the formalities- let’s get down to business. As a Pokémon player, fan, and card investor/junkie, I wish to pick a few bones with you and your Pokémon Empire. I represent the noble contingent of American Pokémon addicts who purchase at least 90% of your cards, video games and other overcommercialized Poké-products.
Please answer these questions with all truthiness (for all you Steven Colbert lovers out there), or my Exeggutor collection may face the wrath of a few of my Pokémon buddies.
Questions
1. Location of Pokémon World Championships
I know you guys love Hawaiian surfing babes and Katie Perry’s California Girls, but seriously- can you PLEASE pick a better place for the World Championships? I could live with Orlando, but something needs to change. Might I make the humble suggestion- Lancaster, Pennsylvania?
This scenic location is centrally located and just a few hours from New York City, Philadelphia, and the Baltimore/DC area and would be PERFECT for hosting the World Championships every year. And I’m not saying that just because I live here. OK, maybe I am, but give it some thought, will you? (Did I mention my Exeggutor collection is extremely flammable?)
2. New Card Releases- America’s Turn!
Listen, we are sick and tired of Japan getting all of the new Pokémon cards first! We love Pokémon just as much as you guys. All this does is force the guys at Pokébeach to infiltrate your secret empire and give us a heads up on what’s coming down the pike. So, save us all the effort and drama and just print the English cards first.
3. Fossil and Legend Cards
What were you guys smoking when you developed these cards? Kudos on the artwork and the general idea of the Legend Cards. But, you created a crap-load of supporters/trainers/energy for Pokémon SP but don’t give jack squat to help these other cards out. WHERE’S THE LOVE, MAN??!?!???
4. Recent Sets
pokebeach.comThe recent sets had so many crappy cards that I seriously almost considered skipping prerelease tournaments. Seriously, look at Smoochum from Undaunted. Why in the name of all that is holy is this Hariyama considered a rare Pokémon? And Lanturn from Unleashed? Will you PLEASE make sure that all rare and secret rare cards are actually worth playing???
5. The Crap Overload
Why is it that about 90% of the cards from any set are complete practically useless in organized play?
6. Donk Decks
I actually thought the point of the Pokémon Trading Game was to have a reasonable battle with your opponent instead of trying to the turn 1 knockout! Can you please do something to change the rules of the game to make sure this doesn’t happen????
Thank you sir for taking time to read this letter, and I hope to hear from you soon. If for any reason this letter has offended you or your Pokémon minions, my name is really Adam, and I run a website called SixPrizes.com.
Re: New Card Releases:
Since they founded Pokemon (and also develop it), they do have a right to printing them first. I do agree, however, that the information about new sets needs to be shared a lot more than it currently is. It is quite unreasonable for us to have to spy on them. It would cause less trouble if they would release info to everyone all at once. It’s not like we would undermine them or anything.
This is pretty unprofessional and I could see an assistant reading this and playing it off as an office joke. No doubt this is probably one of the worse ways to get a change in the format. Lancaster as the location of Worlds?! Are you kidding me? This was a fun read mainly because of how ridiculous it is. Thanks for that!
yeah ill have to agree that if you are seriously trying to get him to read it, it would have to be more professional. although still a pretty funny read! and plenty of good points… especially that 90% of cards are literally useless.
I don’t know if I’ll get a response, especially with the Poke-lawyers getting on to the guys at Pokebeach recently. Unprofessional or not, I’ll just hope it gets through to Ishy.
Are you crazy??? Are you seriously sending this to the PRESIDENT OF POKEMON? Just asking, but bold move if you do…
You know, I’ve found that being very unprofessional can actually be very useful, funny and comical. See, if you came to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, every year for World’s, I could explain this all in much more detail….
I hear that some future Poke-Powers and PokeBodies will only work in Lancaster.
“If you are currently located in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, your turn ends now.”
Newsflash dude, IT IS a joke.
Someone here needs to laugh a little more often.
You sholud give ditto a new evolution
Of ditswole I have a picture of an idea if you want to see it
If you are interested I’m sure many ditto fans would like it I already showed 100 and they said it was awesome If you want to see my idea please contact me at 23thomask@wps39.org via email
i whole heartily agree that legends and support for legends absolutely SUCK! i love the artwork, and the concept but its just unplayable sadly :[
Guys they hold it on the west coast so that its just a accessable to Japan as it is to us in the US I mean what Jap. player wants to sit on a plane for an extra 3 hours after a long flight to Cali.
Listen, if Japan gets all of the new Pokemon cards, then I think we get to host the World Championships every year in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I just think that is far (and by happenstance VERY convenient for me)
You probably shouldn’t say “Jap player”… World War II called, derogatory/racist terms aren’t cool.
Whops wrong Yahoo,
Jacob Burrows.
Sorry I posted a Terrence by accedent (Terrance isn’t my yahoo).
@Jordan Barker Sorry I tend to short hand everything and anything.
Haha, funny, well-written article.
However, allow me to play devil’s advocate…
– Worlds are in the places they are because it attracts families. Would you rather spend a summer vacation (meaning lots of time, effort, $$) in a random city in Pennsylvania, staying in the hotel while your kid played some silly game? Or spend it in CA, or FL, enjoying the weather, beaches, and attractions? The answer here is simple.
– I wish the cards would come out at the same time too, but that’s unlikely to happen due to our promo system vs. Japan’s, and the movies/reveals of Pokemon. Still, I completely agree.
– LEGENDs are getting support. Legend Box, that one stadium, Bronzong, etc.
– I agree with all of this. I’ve talked a bit about how I would rather have our sets be 70 cards or something, and maybe even cost a bit more if we wouldn’t get all of the bad cards. However, I don’t see that happening anytime soon, and if it doesn’t, you should vote with your wallet and buy singles of new cards if you feel strongly about it.
– Donks are apart of the game. I understand why people dislike it, but I really don’t understand how it’s not glaringly obvious to everyone else that they were designed into the game. They don’t print cards like Sableye, Ambipom, Machamp, etc. without testing first. Japan’s tournaments are mostly 3 prizes, 30 cards, etc. Japan wants this game to move fast, and they’ve made the cards to do so. I’m not saying it’s the healthiest thing for the game, no, but I am saying you can’t pretend it’s because of faulty game design.
Great article!
Thanks Kenny for the feeback!
For the record, Lancaster, Pennsylvania is not just some “random” place. We have some awesome things like Dutch Wonderland, Amish, and more Smorgasboard per square foot than any other place in the world. And just think about the possibilities- riding to the tournament every morning in a horse and buggy!
I still don’t think they gave enough support to Legends/fossils in comparison to SP decks. Seriously, think about it! Do we have a Legend Radar? Legend Energy? Legend’s Conspiracy? Energy Gain- Legend Style? You get my drift….
As far as donks are concerned, I still think the game is too tilted toward this possibility, especially after reading some of the world reports when some great players went down with the donk. I just think there should be a rule like being able to choose 1 pokemon from your deck to put on your bench, having a mulligan with some kind of card penalty, or something like that.
You gotta have the Smorgasbords to go with your Pokemon! Lol! You have a point about the under supported Legends cards. They aren’t very good because of the difficulty of getting them out. We do need Legend Radar, Legend’s Conspiracy, and even Legy-Turn. Yeah. Legy-Turn

I like the legend radar thing, sounds kinda cool.
We need some Leg-Spray too!
– Location of Pokemon World Championships, you’re even lucky that you may try to go to worlds, have nationals, battle roads and prereleases, in my country there is no such thing as Organized Play for Pokemon, and if you haven’t seen the list, USA is the country with more participants, not even the japanese, you’re lucky and you don’t even know it!
– New Card Releases- America’s Turn! Print the English cards first? Are you mad?, or it’s just because your an american, you thing you have the right to choose what’s better for everyone. Remember, this is a japanese game, it will never be “america first”, al you can hope is sooner, it does not even happen with the videogames, so it will not happen with cards.
– This is a card GAME, yeah I said it, it’s a game. Not all the cards have to be high-demanding competitive cards. Kids and guys that have no interest at all of competing in tournaments also play. So Smoochum from Undaunted, it’s one of those cards some kids may say “Hey! I have a rare card”, and you may say “ROFLMAO”.
– Recent Sets and The Crap Overload, that’s America’s fault, not the japanese. They cut fairly good (not great) sets, they are used to cut them into two crappy sets (Unleashed, and Undaunted = Revived Legends). But then again if it wasn’t like that you would remove “collectible” from TCG.
– Donk Decks, metagame is everywere, and in everygame, it will get you, even if you don’t like it. If you deffinatly hate it you will become those “Kids and guys with no interest at all of competing in tournaments”
Hi Mario, I’ve obviously hit a few sensitive spots with you, so let me see if we can clean some of this up:

REPLY: Wow! That would really stink not to have Pokemon in the whole country! Where do you live? I’m going to change my letter to recommend that every other year we come to your country for World Championships (alternating with Lancaster, Pennsylvania, of course)

REPLY: Is the REALLY america’s fault? It looks like we aren’t going to agree on this, and since I already pinned this article on Adam, I can’t really put the blame on him. How about we compromise and blame the French? The can be incredibly rude, and they are ripe for being blamed for something. Or, if someone else wants to blame their country, just let me know.

– Not America, just Nintendo of America, haha. Stupid slitted sets D:
Yo may blame my country, if you want.
Just remember those japenese Lv.X decks, they were already in them!!! D:
And just look at Undaunted decks, they are some lame Espeons with a nice foil, they have to include a booster to sell them. (I do love buying decks just for the coins).

– It would be nice to have both ways mulligan, to choose to draw one less, or having your opponent to draw one more. But it’´s a card game so it’s like 25% luck at least.
The USA and Venezuela are not on the came continent. North and South America are each their own continent.
It all depends on how you divide the continents, they could be 7 continents, or just 4.
I like the 6-way, America, Antarctica, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia (or Oceania).
LMAO You witty, silver tongued devil you!
Well it all comes down to money. You want to win big in nationals and regionals? you better have the top cards. So they just put 1 or 2 top playable cards in every set so people buy more packs. I mean they do have to make money xD. Also I’m a originally a Yugioh Player and I definately disagree with their way of “banning” cards as its just rotating a whole booster pack which can make the game really unfair such as the format we are in now where SP is dominating and a few stage 2 decks are viable a.k.a vilegar. It would make the game much more diverse and fun to have periodical banning system like Yugioh where they take a look at the most winning decks of regionals, nationals, provincials and ban some cards to balance the game out more.
Banning sounds like a lot of fun! I nominate Adam to be on the banning committee- assuming he can stay out of trouble after publishing this disparaging article against the Pokemon Empire
1) Why would you ruin the great name of “Bill” by printing him as a supporter? This is a slap in the face to Bill and all of his supporters (see what I did there?). You could have just reprinted Mom’s Kindness.
2) Can you please choose a handfull of top played cards and periodically ban one of them? This would make deckbuilding more interesting. I suggest Azelf as the first ban. Cyrus’s Conspiracy could be second.
3) Can you change the prize structure for Battle Roads to not include packs of UD? Winners only get 2 or 4 packs, while the losers get 0. 4 packs of UD is almost the same as 0.
4) I don’t care if we get cards before Japan, really, but can we just settle on the same sets? Why do we need different sets in the US compared to Japan? Perhaps their market is like the lab rats of Pokemon TCG. When a set causes cancer, perhaps they tweak it before releasing to the US to reduce the chances of legal action.
Great questions!!!! They did ruin Bill’s name- completely unacceptable.
I like the idea of banning- maybe we can get the judge from Survivor TV show to vote off cards in a very dramatic fashion.
I like your prize idea!!! Maybe we should have some really useful cards that could be “won”. Victory medal is pretty cool but needs to be a little more useful IMHO
Great point about the sets- why are they different??!??? Very strange
“3) Can you change the prize structure for Battle Roads to not include packs of UD? Winners only get 2 or 4 packs, while the losers get 0. 4 packs of UD is almost the same as 0.”
I loled xD
Worst thing is thats so freaking true its scary. i have already oppened 8 UD packs, and only got 1 slowking prime, so yeah, maybe with 10 or 20 boosters we can get a useful card.
I didn’t plan it this way, but the timing for posting this article was perfect given what happened at Pokebeach recently. POKEMON FOR THE PEOPLE!!!!
Just so everyone knows, this is a funny article (and also I didn’t write it, though you may have been lead to believe so…)
Adam, thanks for clarifying. That was just downright character assassination to put your name at the end of the article. I hope that smitham9 guy gets banned for such a blatant act of cowardice
I do agree with your stance on the location of Worlds wholeheartedly though. Lancaster would be a perfect location. We could hold the tournament outdoors in a cornfield and the winners could be given free horse and buggy victory rides!
Adam, thanks for clarifying. That was just downright character assassination to put your name at the end of the article. I hope that smitham9 guy gets banned for such a blatant act of cowardice
Haha this is awesome. The only part I wanted to point out is that you kept saying that Smoochum was from undaunted when it’s from HGSS base. haha The only reason I’m happy that worlds is going to be in San Diego is because my sister lives there so I might have a chance to go. Even if I don’t get invited it would still be fun to go haha
Dang it! I can’t keep my series straight- thanks for correcting me. You know, I wouldn’t mind going to CA, but with 3 kids, it’s hard to make the car trip living on the East Coast, if you know what I mean.
Isn’t worlds in August by the way? If so that should be timed just right because my sister is getting married in August so I’ll be in San Diego! haha
hahahah this is amazing
Kind of tongue in cheek thing. But it is true.
TPCI does kind of overlook U.S. players in some ways. But its their choice to do so. Even though worlds is in Hawaii, a U.S. state, its a lot closer to Japan then it is to the main land U.S. Thats why that whole Pearl Harbor thing happened.
And there has been a lot of crap cards. But all cards can’t be good. Maybe the percentage of crap has risen a little, so that can be lowered.
I agree.
I agree.
the reason why cards like moms are made is for the limeted formats, thats one thing and the reason smooch is a rare is cause he wont evolve and she is a weak small pokemon so flavor so you can make her hp huge and they dont evolve. so you in your few packs don’t get stuck with 30 hp pokemon that dont go anywhere
Damn seemed a little on the “too much japanese puns” side of things for me.
“eggsplode” often and bring honor not only to Japan but to all countries where Pokemon enthusiasts thrive.
That seemed like a direct kamakazi pun to me, I doubt they will find that one as funny as we might.
whoa! that was definitely NOT a reference to kamakazi- it was more teasing about Exeggutor and making some jokes about it. Seriously, I wouldn’t joke about WWII stuff. Apologies to anyone who thought the same thing!
I live in Lancaster. haha.
nice photo, you could have atleast shown Lancaster city or Lincoln Highway, not what is a 1/2 mile away from Lincoln Highway. lol
Lancaster would be neat, even though it would never happen. It has a HUGE tourist attraction from literally all over the world thanks to the Amish.
We could have Worlds at Six Feet Under Games. lol
Oh, showing those pictures would have been WAY too convincing. I didn’t want to unduly influence people’s decisions.
I like the idea of World’s at 6 Feet Under! However, we would probably have to set up tents in the parking lot or take over the entire town of New Holland.
They could pull a Yu-Gi-Oh and just make the entire city open for playing a children’s card game everywhere. Bonus points if they create wrist-mounted holographic projectors that will show the creatures we’re playing with in fully rendered 3D.
okay, please tell him to reprint call energy
definitely! And Roseanne’s Research for that matter…
Oh Claydol…
First of all, i don’t agree in number 1. You guys are complaining that Worlds are in other side on your country. And you can go there by train/car/plane for cheap prize(Expect Hawaji). And you think that is long way, and want that closer for you?
Think about it. We need go over the ocean, every year, if we want go to worlds? Think about how long it will be, and how expensive that is? And some of us travel that distance every year, paying it itself. And you are wining that it’s so long way. Even Japanese got semi-long distance to America, but still it’s there. Sure you got the most of the players, but still it’s need to be every year in America? Why even once in Europe? Here are lot of active players, and places for that tournament. So if you are complain about expensive trip’s, think again, think us.
2. It would be nice we could have English card’s month or two earlier, than usually. Japanese have cards so early depend to us. And new rule stop us using japanese cards. So why not make both langues same time, or even closer each other.
3. I have thinking sense Legend cards revealed, that they will be like Shiny cards. Expensive, shiny and not working. But some of these was suprising me how good they actually was, and was working. So i don’t know, did they mentioned to be competive cards, or just for collect?
4&5. There always been “Filler cards”, and there will be always be. If they make every card so good, that they are good, like Gengar SF, there will be so, so many decks, so you can’t counter everything. Sure the set’s would be smaller, but that’s not the point. If every rare is good, we would have format, what is faster, impossible to counter decks, and almost endless deck choices.
6. I agree. It’s not fun to get donked 4 time’s in tournament. But hey, that is the game? Some decks donk, some don’t. Try counter it, or try get live with it. It’s part of game. But it will be bigger part, if we will have better and faster cards.
Sorry my bad english, it’s not my native language.

What is his email address, I am thinking of writing to him regarding an idea for a Pokémon game
dear CEO of Pokémon journey’s season 23 is very very awesome but I was wondering if you could bring the two characters from xyz Serena and gerninja to see ash Ketchum in 1-2 episodes for Pokémon journeys please.
