Double Decker – An Unusual Deck

Note from Adam: This is an article from one of our younger viewers, so please be kind and leave helpful comments. :)

Hi, this is my first article on SixPrizes. I came up with this idea for a deck and I have been playing around with it for a while. This deck consists of a lot of different Pokémon but is made with one purpose in mind: Decking out your opponent.

Here’s the list.

Pokémon
3 Trapinch RR
3 Vibrava RR
3 Flygon RR
1 Flygon LV.X RR
1 Giratina PL 9
1 Giratina LV.X PL
3 Larvitar UL 50
3 Spiritomb AR
2 Uxie LA
2 Uxie LV.X
T/S/S
4 Bebe’s Search
2 Luxury Ball
4 Pokémon Collector
4 Pokémon Communication
2 Premier Ball
3 Professor Elm’s Training Method
4 Super Scoop Up
Energy
5 F
5 P
4 Double Colorless

pokemon-paradijs.comFlygon LV.X
Flygon LV.X is the main attacker of this deck. Extreme Attack can take other LV.X’s. It’s also used for its Poké-Body, Wind Erosion, which allows you to discard the top card from your opponent’s deck between turns.

Giratina LV.X
A supporting Pokémon that has one of the leading roles in this deck. Giratina is used for its Poké-Body, Invisible Tentacles, which makes your opponent discard a card from his hand if he wants to attack. Very annoying (for them).

Uxie LV.X
Another useful tech with a leading role. Its Poké-Power, Trade Off, allows you to draw 2 cards, choose one of them and put the other back into your deck.

Spiritomb
Your main starter Pokémon. Used for its Darkness Grace attack (which allows you to search your deck for a Pokémon that evolves from a Pokémon you have in play) and also its Poké-Body, Keystone Seal, puts your opponent in a bad place with its Trainer Lock. I use Pokémon Collector to get Trapinches and start evolving them with Spiritomb.

pokebeach.comLarvitar
Your alternative starter Pokémon. Got Larvitar in your opening hand? Don’t have Spiritomb? Not to fret! Just give it an energy and it’ll start discarding cards early and healing itself!

Premier Ball
I’ve noticed that not that many people give this trainer a chance, but I believe (and have experienced) that this card can be a be a life saver (not the candy).

Luxury Ball
You know the deal, search your deck for a Pokémon, show it to… wait what!! You run 2 Luxury Ball?! Yup, that’s right folks, I think that consistency is good and you probably will only draw 1 in the whole game so… I have 2. 3 would be overdoing it.

Professor Elm’s Training Method
Another card not seeing too much play. Why? No idea. But I use this in all my decks to get out evolutions fast.

Please leave comments, as I said, this is my first article and I want you to tell me exactly what you think.

I have made a deck similar to this and have found it to be quite fun at league.

Some cards you may consider using or changes you may want to incorporate are:

    A) Slowking from HGSS. If you get this on your bench you are doing two things. First, you are adding damage output to Flygon’s attack. Second, you can look at the top three cards from your oppent’s deck and rearrange them in any order. This means that you could actually “erode” a good card before they can get it out.

    B) Either use Bebe’s or Elm’s. I do not think you need both. I my opinion Bebe’s is the better card.

    C) Flower Shop Lady in order to get cards from your discard and you will need to do that.

    D) Plus Powers is very helpful in this deck since neither Giratina nor Uxie add to Flygon’s damage output.

    E) Rocket’s Trick as it allows you to draw 2 and makes your opponent discard one from their hand.

    F) I do not know what Basic Giratina you are using but the Over Slash one is good. If you start with it a double colorless lets you attack.

    I hope this helps.

I looked over the deck list and if you’d like to keep the deck to be relativity the same idea and cards, here’s what I’d suggest.

    -4 Super Scoop Ups
    -2 Larvitar
    -1 Fighting
    -5 Psychic
    -1 Luxury Ball

    +1 Spiritomb
+4 Professor Oak’s New Theory or Copycat
    +3 Rare Candy
    +4 Call Energy
    +1 Warp Energy

    Hope this helps!

I like this idea! I think I might even build this. One problem I see is leveling up your giratina. Right now it looks like to level it up you need to bring it active, level up, and manually retreat it. One thing that might help it level up on the bench is level max PL. I agree with you on premier ball. Although it’s not necessary in all Lv.X decks, it is necessary in this deck because your main strategy is using it’s Poke-Body, so you want to be able to recycle it. For recycling, Palmer’s Contribution SV is better than Flower Shop Lady.

      • Red Ados  → Cam

FSL can be better than Palmer’s in certain decks, but this kid runs plenty of energy (14). He doesn’t necesarily need to recycle a lot of energy. Palmer’s lets him get back a full fly line (trap, vibrava, fly, fly x).
FSL is better in stage one decks ex.where you grab the eevee, glacy, glacy X, and 3 water energy.

    • Alex Pike  → Red

Points Flygon has the Rainbow Float(?) Poke Body where, when it has Psychic energy attached to it, all of your psychic pokemon get free retreat!

Also I’m with you for Palmer Farmer for the same reason as you stated below :)

Even from a younger player, I think you have some good ideas. 2 Lux Ball is more pro than you might think. Just don’t get caught using it twice on accident. IMO you should take out the Giratina line, make it 3-2-3 T-Tar Prime with memory berries and also try to fit in 2-2 Slowking HGSS. That way you have 2 deckers, (Flygon X, T-Tar with Berry) as well as 2 great attackers with free retreat. Slowking can let you decide what is discarded, which is cool. Good luck!

And the scoop ups are kind of a dead card in this deck

I ran a flygon/rhyperior DP deck last year at states. It did very well, but Im afraid times have changed since then.

The 30 +3 format just doesn’t give you enough time to Mill. And without Rhyperior and Trapinch SW, you can’t Mill and lock as easily as you could before.

Milling to deck out just isn’t feasible right now, but if you want to Mill to disrupt, I like the addition of Giratina X, Flygon X is good, and you might want to think about taking out the larvitar for 1-1 or 2-2 Ursraing Prime. He can mill 1 and do 90 damage for CCC and 1 damage counter on him.

Thanks for all the helpful comments!
@Cpeterik like the Slowking from HGSS idea, although I don’t have any T-Tar Prime yet but when I do it will go in immediately. Thanks again everybody!

This is actually a combination I’ve been wanting to try for a while, Flygon and Giratina.
    I LOVE Giratina :D

For a younger player your article is written well and nicely presented. Also your deck list, for the most part, is well thought out and shows innovation. Good job! :D
