Card of the Day – VS Seeker (Supreme Victors SV 140)

pokemon-paradijs.comWelcome to today’s Card of the Day. Today, I’m reviewing another requested card, VS Seeker. VS Seeker is a trainer card from the DP Supreme Victors expansion pack. It’s a pretty simple, it let’s you put one Supporter in your discard pile to your hand.

This card is pretty useful late game, as it can be another copy of Professor Oak’s New Theory, Copycat, Cyrus’s Conspiracy, Aaron’s Collection, etc., so it’s pretty versatile in that sense. There are two problems with the card that are hindering this card from seeing play in every deck.

The first is that, while it’s pretty good late game, it’s not very useful early game. Sure, you can play collector, then reuse it, but typically that won’t be the case. The second issue, which isn’t really a huge issue, but it can be a nuisance, is it’s a trainer, meaning that Viletomb and Spiritomb will lock it out of play.

The most common use for this card was in SP decks, typically to copy Cyrus’s Conspiracy or perhaps an Aarons’s Collection, but with Trainer Lock so popular, VS Seeker is often times the 61st card in a deck. Another factor that doesn’t particularly help is the fact that, if a deck has room to add some non-essential trainers to the deck, they’ll typically go for Energy Exchanger, Pokémon Communication or perhaps the upcoming Junk Arm trainer card.

I know this was a pretty short card review, but in my opinion there’s not that much to say.

Overall, it’s a nice card that can be pretty nice late game, but may be past its prime.

Rating: 3/5

The Card of the Day thread is still taking requests to know what cards you want reviewed. I assure you that, unless there’s some big reason, I’ll eventually get to all of the requests in a somewhat reasonable time.

    It was good before…
VileTomb came creeping around using the power of Ugly Smelly Flower Gravestones
pairing symbiotically with purple ghosts and scorpions
    G-job Dakota
    Short and Sweet

It’s really worthwhile in decks that play 1-of Supporter cards. But, as you said, trainer lock and the inability to search it out really cripples it’s use.

I still think this is a great card. It works better in decks with single copies of supporters. It has worked incredibly well in Sablelock builds. As you are able to disrupt, setup, or grab cyrus according to situation.

trainer lock aside i prefer to use this card instead of maxing out other supporters, late game it lets you reuse any supporter you need, using only one spot where if you were to max out your supporters that costs you valuable deck space… multiple deck spaces

Cool. Thanks for doing my suggestion.

I just started using it in SP lists, mainly to re-use Aaron. With NM rotated and Palmer using up your Supporter without getting the cards back in hand, this seemed like a good option.

It’s good for more than just that obviously, and has made the difference between winning and losing a couple of time.
