Sunflora (HeartGold SoulSilver HS 31) – Card of the Day

pokemon-paradijs.comSunflora is cool. I mean look at it. If anyone says that Sunflora is not cool there obviously liars. Anyway, I’m not going to do COTD the way most people do it, and I’m also not going to write a poem (sorry Genguy). So what am I going to do? Well, I’m going to analyze each aspect of the card and give each part of it a score, then I’ll give the card as a whole a total score out of. Sound good? Lets go!

HP, type and bottom stats:

Well, being grass type is a mixed blessing: You get support from Landmin and ummm… Sunflora, but almost nothing is weak to you and you’re usually weak to fire. Eighty HP is ten bellow average for a stage one and it also makes Sunflora susceptible to be Dragon Rushed by Garchomp C LV.X. And lastly, Sunflora’s bottom stats are ok, but really nothing too special.

Poké-Bodies, Powers and attacks:

Sunflora’s Poké-Power “Sunshine Grace” is the reason that Sunflora may deserve a spot in your deck, as it basically says that once per turn you may search your deck for a Grass Pokémon and put it in your hand. Now obviously with a attack like Blade Arms (3 for 40, Ugh). Sunflora should only be placed in grass decks, but with a Power as good as that, it should have a spot in almost every grass deck (apart from Scizor/Cherrim).

Well Sunflora can be used in pretty much every grass deck not named Scizor/Cherrim so yea, pretty good apart from the fact that there aren’t many popular grass decks in the format right now.

Sunflora has a somewhat limited range of decks it can be used in, but its really great at what it does.

So, thats my first COTD! Please comment and say if you like the “breaking a card down” style of COTD or if you just like the normal ones. But anyway, if you have any questions, comments, or death threats e-mail me at

I played this card in my Jumpluff deck that I took to Midwest Regionals last year and I think that it is an amazing card to have in any grass deck. The swarming ability that this card provides helped me place in the top 16.

A pretty nice review, but i’m not sure how your scores of 5,7,6 make an average of 7. Did you mean to say 6,8,7 to make 7?

The overall score isn’t entirely based on the individual scores, I fell that the aspects of the card I listed deserved that score but the card as a whole deserved a 7/10

If it were me, I would have just toned down the separation of all the aspects of the card a bit and just separated it between two groups, “Stats” and “Poke-Things & Attacks”, but hey, that’s just me.

Hmm, I think this more broken-down card could be an interesting idea, I’m really curious to see what you guys think of this unique way to approach cotds.

Hmmmmm… Yea, I guess you could do that, but I think that how many uses a card has and how many decks it can be used in is a very important part of any card. Oh, and if you wanna use my idea I wont sue ya! =P

Ok, cool. I might try it out down the line, see what people think.

Btw, I know that how many uses a card has is important, but I would probably just incorporate that into my overall rating.

Really like that this card came out, its just a faster Beedrill (being stage 1) but unfortunately is snipe bait. I guess in a Jumpluff or something there could be room for a Bench Shield.

    Smiley smiley Sunflore :D

EDIT: wont let me post as galladeava – ah well

I think all of the clay-modeled figures that Yuka Morii does are super-cute (like Ledian HS, Magcargo UD, Plusle SV…). But I think I like this one best. I mean, how could anyone run that snarling Garchomp after seeing that smile?
