6P S/P/T Dice Promotion

You may have heard me mention getting 6P dice manufactured and sold on the site at some point, and in January I actually did get a batch produced for a promotion I wanted to run during Regionals, but the timing didn’t work out and I’ve been sitting on the dice ever since.

However, with States/Provincials/Territories in sight this coming weekend, I’m ready to roll them out…

Gilded with 100% authentic fool’s gold.

Instead of simply selling the dice, I thought it would be more exciting to make a way that you could win them. Yu-Gi-Oh style.

Our Underground writers will be packing these dice at States, and they’ll be playing for keeps. If you get matched up against one of our UG writers during the tournament and beat them (either in Swiss or knock them out of top cut), you win a dice. Each writer only has a total of 4 dice to defend, meaning supplies are very limited. (No pressure or anything, guys!)

Here is a listing all our participants in the promotion and which States they’ll be attending:

And I will be going to Pennsylvania States and playing, provided someone out there can lend me a deck for the day.

As mentioned, each writer only has a limited amount of dice, and once the dice are gone, they’re gone. So by the third weekend, I do not expect many – if any – to be left. Do not snooze the first weekend!

In addition to winning the dice through chalking one up in the win column versus our writers during the tournament, you may also do a challenge match against them either if the tournament is over and they’re up for it, or if they are judging rather than playing the event. (I know Ray will most likely be judging Connecticut.) This way Juniors and Seniors will have a chance to win dice too.

Also, I’ve decided that I will likely never be selling dice on the website, as I had a pretty traumatic two day experience at the post office trying to mail these out, so they will be somewhat of a collector’s item.

GOOD LUCK!

P.S. I recently launched the new version of PkmnCards after a long month of intensive coding. Check it out, bookmark it (if bookmarking is still a thing), and let me know what you think:

We need some Senior 6P writers! Definitely need to get me some of those dice.

    • Dane_Carlson  → TCGVictini

There are Seniors division 6p writers (I’m one of them), just not Underground writers. Underground supplies top-notch articles, and the younger you go, the less reliable and the less well-written articles are (see, that single sentence probably could’ve been written better).

Also, just in case you missed it, you can play against the UG writers in side games, not just during Swiss.

        • Dane_Carlson  → Ziggmiceter

Really? Then what does this mean: “In addition to winning the dice through chalking one up in the win
column versus our writers during the tournament, you may also do a
challenge match against them either if the tournament is over and
they’re up for it, or if they are judging rather than playing the event.

Guess I’ll have to have an eye out for Erik… I’ll be at both.

  3. Jack Stensrud

Well, I’m going to have to find Kenny on the 16th, I want those dice. Good thing that all of my proxies are filled up.

  4. Ziggmiceter

Does it have to be in Swiss or can it be at any time?
It doesn’t matter for me because no one’s going to CA :/

    These dice look awesome.
Props to you for organizing this.

Four dice does seem a very small amount for each Writer to defend over three weeks, but I suppose it adds to the exclusivity of the thing and there is always the fact that all of these people are very very very good players and it is unlikely they will be beaten very much.

I personally would love it if you would sell a different design in the near future as I know I would definitely buy them.

    Thanks

In retrospect I wish I ordered more dice, but it was mainly meant to be a test run to make sure the quality was ok, so i didn’t want to order too many. (Only 100 were made total.) I’ll get more made to give away for free at Nationals and Worlds, but they’ll be a different color.

I may get this same color produced again, but it’ll be in small quantities and we’ll do this same sort of promotion.

      • Pokemonguy  → Adam

If they were in different colors I’d get all the colors but will the be able to order soon, ’cause I’d like them for nats.

        • Adam Capriola  → Pokemonguy

I don’t think I’m going to sell any on the site because shipping is a pain and expensive internationally. Overseas shipping is $7 for a tiny padded envelope package that weights like 1 ounce. And I have to fill out an extra postal form. Pretty ridiculous.

It makes more sense for me to either just attend a big event and bring a bunch myself to give away (so I don’t have to deal with shipping) or ship a bunch to someone I trust to distribute them.

    Hey Adam,

I like the idea of this promotion but I’m less than thrilled with the way it was done. For people who live in these areas, it’s nice. They get a cool little challenge. However, there are tons of people (myself included) who would like to get one of these dice but aren’t attending the same States as the Underground Writers. True, I see the appeal and allure of using the UG writers, but it doesn’t really give a fair shot to everyone to get these dice.

If there was an additional way for you to give these out, that would be great. If not, I understand. (And since there are an extra 44 dice when you subtract the ones you gave the UG writers and yourself, maybe there is still hope for the rest of us ;])

    • Adam Capriola  → kazambolt

I actually only have 12 left in my possession. I gave couple out to each of our forum moderators too.

I’ll try to get more made for Nationals and we can again do this same sort of thing (there will be more opportunity for challenge matches there anyway). I know it’s not completely fair right now, but I thought of the idea after I got the limited quantity of dice made and at least want to try this out to see how it goes.

I wanted to do it for Winter Regionals like I mentioned, since those are more centralized events, but the timing didn’t work out. I guess Spring Regionals is a possibility too if I can get more made by then.

      • Frank Hamilton  → Adam

If you do this for Nationals, I think it’d be neat to do a different color to distinguish each “batch” of tournaments you could win them at.

        Cool idea, imo.

  7. Andrew Wamboldt

If anyone wants to, I want to get some decks together from Nationals 2012 format, and would love to play challenge games in that format if anyone else would like to get together some decks from that format. Otherwise, I’ll have a few modified decks on hand as well for side challenges.

  8. Jay

Since I only will only have 5 dice to be fair to everybody I’m going to give 2 away max in Nebraska, 2 away max in Wisconsin, and 1 away max in Iowa. -Jay

I guess I should have read the comments before commenting, so I could have replied to yours directly. How about you send me one of the dice if you X-0 all three tourneys?

    Hey Adam,

“If you ever change your mind by mass production”

I would love to hand these out at my store or at any events i go to even if I have to front the money before hand. If you need someone to manage mailing these out please email me at Madhatterni@gmail.com.

Would be kind of nice to see this sort of thing at Nats/Worlds for people who don’t get to go to any of the States the mentioned writers are going to.

  11. Jak Stewart-Armstead

Dunno why anyone would complain about this. It’s something cool, it’s something free, and it’s something extra. No one is being denied stuff that they could reasonably expect to get.

So, instead of moaning about how some people won’t be able to get them, just think that it will be nice for the people that do.

  12. Phil Materi

That sounds like a great idea. It would be better if there were more dice available, but like you said, this is just a test run.

Now I just have to find out which deck Mark Hanson is playing at Provincials, then rig the match ups so that we meet in round 1! ;)

  13. Aidan Boyce

Oh my, Ray and Dylan will be at the States I’m going to. Well I guess I’ll be trying to win those dice then!

  14. Ed Mandy

That Jay guy can’t ever beat me. Now I’m sure to get me a die… Awww, snap. He ain’t playin’ in MN!!! :) Just kiddin’ Jay. Go get yourself a few more state wins!

  15. Robert Mirabile

What about the Juniors and Seniors? They wont have the chance to face one of the writers since they are mostly masters.
