My Life as a Competitive Pokémon TCG Player, from 2010 to Now “I got into playing the game during the era of Pokemon SP. At the time I had been playing Yu-Gi-Oh. However, I wasn’t playing it competitively; I’d more so just go to league and play casually. This is mainly due to the fact that I had no idea about competitive play at the time. Out of the blue, I thought about Pokemon and how the cards looked because I had old-school cards from Base Set and Fossil. I figured I’d take a look at some of the recent cards at the time. This is where I came upon cards like…
Top 8 PA States Report, V/G is Life, and Water-Type Hype “I played Exeggutor Week 1 in Delaware to a disappointing drop finish. I felt as though the deck was extremely fragile and basically relied on your opponent not drawing much Energy, as well as flipping at least 50% on Hammers. It just wasn’t for me. I wanted a deck that would have pretty close to even matchups across the field. I absolutely hate playing decks that take an autoloss or near autoloss. I feel as though this format, more so than others I have experienced (although that isn’t too many), is extremely matchup based in general, but I will go…
The Top 16 Grind, Junior Meta Updates, Modern Deck Design, and Maryland + Virginia States Reports “That’s enough talk about parenting! Let’s talk about Pokemon — specifically, what is going on in the Junior meta. The Junior meta feels more different from the Masters meta than ever before. Whereas Masters are circling around Battle Compressor decks obsessively, I think your average Junior still seeks decks where there is an element of attaching and attacking. Most Juniors are put off by the complexity and non-linearity of decks such as Vespiquen/Vileplume. Similarly, the chunk of Juniors not put off by the complexity are put off for a different reason, but to articulate that, I need to tell a…
Be cautious of the ectoplasmic body surrounding its soul. You’ll become stiff as stone if you touch it. (Cursola)
Umbreon-GX and Adapting for a Smaller Metagame “Coming off of my Australian 2nd place performance, and given the overall strength of the deck, it was hard for me to consider playing anything other than Decidueye/Vileplume. However, I had been down this road before with Greninja, where I’m stubborn and refuse to adapt or change decks based on previous experiences rather than on results or reality. Don’t get me wrong, Decidueye is an incredibly strong deck, but every opponent I’m up against here in Mexico expected that deck from me. Thus, Wobbuffet and extra Hex Maniac, even in decks such as Volcanion, were becoming the norm. Other players…
This Pokémon reigns supreme in the skies of the Galar region. The black luster of its steel body could drive terror into the heart of any foe. (Corviknight)
