My Dallas Experience w/ Zoro/Garb, Final Notes on Expanded, and Team Up and Standard “To nobody’s surprise, Zoroark-GX decks made up a majority of the meta in Dallas. Zoroark-GX/Garbodor was the most popular deck, but Archie’s Blastoise was only behind by two people. Aside from the 88 and 86 playing these respective decks, there was a slew of other Zoroark-GX decks, a surge of Vespiquen, Rayquaza-GX, and other meta decks somewhat seen in the field. Fighting decks, Trevenant, and Drampa-GX/Garbodor were all relatively unpopular, only having about 20 players each. I was surprised to see that there weren’t more Fighting decks because of Zoroark’s last win. My theory is that most people were more…
Running Through Top Picks for Dallas, a look into Vespiquen, and Night March Nightmares “Despite the vast card pool, the metagame is a bit centralized. Zoroark is clearly a meta-defining card, as it pairs so well with the recovery and high impact cards available in Expanded. I was listening to a Hearthstone podcast recently, and one of the players (Zalae) talked about how the format should be the stalest right before a rotation. His reasoning is that because there are so many cards, there are bound to be broken combinations of cards which lead to some decks just being that much stronger than any other decks. We see this effect in our Expanded format,…
Understanding the Biology of X and Y “When reading today’s discussion, please keep three things in mind… 1: No running in the lab. (Ash…) 2: Remember that this is a jumping-off point for testing, and not the end of it. Many of the thoughts, tactics, and lists discussed here are actually the beginning of what may be months of breakthroughs, especially since X and Y is such a groundbreaking set. 3: This article’s main purpose is discussing applications of the new set, and not necessarily new uses for old cards. You’ll definitely see recommendations on playing Darkrai, Emboar, Plasma, etc., but they’re not our primary topics of…
The Quest for the Perfect List “Before I get to some substance, I would like to extend a huge thank you to this community for embracing my last article. It was the first article I’ve written on Pokemon, and to receive so many likes and comments was humbling! I hope I can continue to write good articles that you guys appreciate and help you grow as a player. Writing is one of my favorite things to do, so as long as I play Pokemon and there’s interest, I will probably continue to write articles. Thanks so much! Last time I was writing, I went over the…
