Second Tier Hopefuls for Regionals “Flareon Landorus/Lugia/Drifblim Plasma Lugia Blastoise Cards to Consider Conclusion I know… some of you may be getting sick of me talking about this deck, but it keeps testing very well for me against three of the top four contenders. Results like that simply can’t be ignored. Here is my updated list: No Stunfisk DRX, Terrakion BCR, Landorus EX, or Fighting Energy Many versions of this deck play some substantial combination of those Pokémon and Fighting Energy in place of the Fire Energy in my list. People turn to these cards as methods of dealing with Darkrai EX. I simply don’t think…
Top 8 Boston Open Report, Vespiquen/Flareon, and Toad/Giratina “After Day 1 not going so well, I had no clue what to play for the Boston Open. I was able to register for it late Friday night and I decided to spend my time relaxing rather than testing for the event the next day. I messaged my friend Brandon Cantu the night before and asked him to send me the list he planned to play for Day 2 and I was going to play whatever it was, no matter how crazy it might be. At around 7:30 AM on Saturday Brandon sent me his list, I sleeved up the deck, and…
Fighting with Fire, Thoughts on BKT-On, and Looks at Salazzle, Alolan Ninetales, and Xerneas “I knew pretty early on that Fire was going to be the dominant typing in this metagame. That’s not a very bold statement to make, but one that might not be as well accepted as I expected. I walked into my first League Cup this weekend to see multiple copies of Metagross and Golisopod decks, reaffirming my decision to run Volcanion. Quite honestly, I probably would have run a Salazzle-GX deck this weekend, had I owned any. I’m unsure if my feelings towards Salazzle are because it’s actually good or because it seems fun to play, but I’ll delve into…
Examining the Viability of Buzzwole FLI/Weavile UPR/Shrine of Punishments for the Philly Standard “Here’s what I’ve come up with. A lot of the list is traditional, but there are a couple of differences from other lists. First, I’m unsure of Magcargo’s place in this deck. It seems amazing when paired with Acro Bike and Oranguru SUM, but those 4 spots can be allocated elsewhere. The 3-3 Weavile line, Energy Loto, and Marshadow are all conveniences available because of the extra space. These changes smooth the deck over, but in a different manner. 4 Buzzwole, 3-3 Weavile Simply put, these are the main attackers. I run 4 Buzzwole because it’s the best starter by…
Most of its body has the same composition as coal. Fittingly, this Pokémon was first discovered in coal mines about 400 years ago. (Rolycoly)
JoseZard (1-Prizer Edition) and Mew Box (Post-Hidden Fates) for Atlantic City + Köln “I finally caved and decided to try Victini {*} myself, and I have to say it’s a powerful card that every AbilityZard list should be playing moving forward. I didn’t play it in my Worlds list, but that’s because I was running only 12 Fire Energy. However, I’ve now included the best of both worlds. The list still plays 2 Fire Crystal and a hefty amount of Fire Energy. I think the 17/2 split is ideal at the moment. Blacephalon UNB is another reason I kept 2 Fire Crystal because its attack can potentially take down any threat at a…
The Unlimited Deck with No Limits “This deck is a relatively new one, with one of the necessary cards, Seeker from Triumphant, only coming out November of 2010. Since then, it has gathered much popularity with anyone who plays Unlimited, and has become arguably the best deck out-of-format. Its ability to donk nearly any opponent setup is unparalleled within the world of Pokémon, which is what makes it such a formidable deck. PoryDonk operates on a standard Unlimited engine – Uxie, Professor Oak, Poké Drawer +, etc. are used for drawing through most, if not all, of the deck (scroll down to decklist for scans). PoryDonk’s way of donking is to set up Porygon2 GE (with Broken Time-Space) and…
Ethical Dilemmas in the Pokémon TCG “Asking for a concession is when one player asks their opponent to let them have the win. This happens more and more commonly as players get closer earning their World Championships invites. This is a pretty hot-button issue right now and for the first time TPCi has actually made it illegal to ask your opponent for a concession. According to this year’s tournament guidelines (section 10.1), repeatedly doing so can be penalized as coercion. I think it was a smart call by TPCi to stop players from being able to ask for concessions. Being asked made a lot of players feel uncomfortable,…
Highly intelligent but also very lazy, it keeps enemies out of its territory by laying traps everywhere. (Drizzile)
If it sees any movement around it, this Pokémon charges for it straightaway, leading with its sharply pointed jaw. It’s very proud of that jaw. (Arrokuda)
