@Bleak did this last year and it was fun*. I'm interested to see what his list is like this year.

Oh, and everyone else . . . post your top 10/5/whatever. I promise not to cry (on the outside) if it's all RPG soundtracks and waifu stuff . . .

I don't think 2013 was all that great myself, so please prove me wrong.

    1. My Bloody Valentine - mbv
    2. Merchandise - Totale Nite
    3. Empty Pools - Saturn Reruns
    4. Parquet Courts - Light Up Gold

Honourable mentions for Drenge and The Flaming Lips.

I found the Arcade Fire album a bit boring if I'm honest.

Good thread! I've been putting a little bit of thought into it, but haven't been able to compile a list yet.

I do know that there's a lot of stuff this year that's been hitting a lot of these lists that I just haven't been able to check out yet. Will get back to you!

I am 32, and I only know 2 of those bands. I feel old now.

I guess I don't feel as bad, I just don't know much of the new music I guess. I only knew Flaming Lips and MBV.

I'm still trying to get a list put together, but the only one that I know for absolute certain is my number one choice: Steven Wilson's "The Raven That Refused To Sing (And Other Stories)"

It's as close to a dream band as I can think of, and it's a very moving album where every song tells an individual story. It's all rather morose/gloomy, but it's a really solid record with a killer amount of musicianship. It's one of my all-time favorites, actually.
  8. HighShroomish

    HighShroomish Wreck-It Ralts

    1. Life on a Rock- Kenny Chesney
    2. Two Lanes of Freedom- Tim McGraw
    3. Golden- Lady A

I don't really have another "favorites" from 2013.

So here's a bit of an interim list. I may move a few things around, but everything's here.
    1. Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused To Sing (And Other Stories)
    2. Port Noir - Puls
    3. Disperse - Living Mirrors
    4. Atma Weapon - Dark Tower
    5. ASG - Blood Drive

    9. Dream Theater - Dream Theater
    10. The Dear Hunter - Migrant
  13. I haven't been overly impressed with much of anything this year, but two albums blew everything else out of the water for me. Perhaps it was seeing them performed live, I don't know.

    1. Red- Release the Panic
    2. Skillet- Rise

Everything else has been kinda meh. I liked a few of Bruno Mars' new songs, and particularly liked "Atlas" by Coldplay, but no full albums other than those two really stood out. Rise in particular, it was a unique album- if you listen to it in order it tells a story, which is something new.

Listened to some of this last night (based on your recommendation). It is kind of amazing and prog rock concept albums aren't usually my thing.
