This is the competitive deck thread for Gothitelle/Accelgor, otherwise known by the common nicknames "GothiGor", "DuskCelgor", and "The Absolute Most Frustrating and Annoying Deck to Play Against Ever". The main strategy is to set up Gothitelle for it's Ability "Trick Room" to keep your opponent from playing any Item cards while using various techs like Accelgor DEX and Dusknoir to increase and manipulate damage. Here is a sample deck list that was used by Rafael Katsuya to win a Regionals in Europe under the new rules:

    Pokemon (20):
    4-1-3 Gothitelle LTR
    3-3 Accelgor DEX
    2-0-2 Dusknoir BCR
    2 Mew EX

    Trainers (36):
    4 Professor Juniper
    4 N
    4 Skyla
    2 Colress

    4 Rare Candy
    4 Level Ball
    3 Float Stone
    3 Great Ball
    2 Ultra Ball
    1 Super Rod
    1 Tool Scrapper
    1 Computer Search

    3 Tropical Beach

    Energy (4):
    4 Double Colorless Energy

For reference, Ian Whiton's deck at the recent 2013 World's had this Pokemon lineup:

    Pokemon (21):
    4-1-3 Gothitelle
    3-2 Accelgor
    1-0-1 Dusknoir
    2 Mew EX
    1-1 Musharna
    2 Keldeo EX

Both Musharna and Munna are useful cards but several players don't feel it's necessary. Musharna's ability in particular is great late-game for keeping the lock. I have personally been saved by a fortunate coinflip on Munna's Long Distance Hypnosis.

Keldeo EX is practical against mirrors. Running two Keldeo EX seemed commonplace at the time. Now that Goth/Accelgor isn't as popular, this tech can possibly be excluded for more consistency (although Rush In shouldn't be written off).

Including a tech for the Virizion EX/anything matchup should be on our minds. This is the biggest reason why players are not considering Goth/Accelgor to be competitive anymore, aside from Keldeo EX and the Catcher errata. Here are some options for discussion:

    Flareon PLF
Revenge costs 2 DCE and will hit for 90 with 7 Pokemon in your discard. Hitting for weakness will be a OHKO on Virizion.

    Reshiram
Outrage costs 2 DCE on this basic with 130 HP. Reshiram needs to take 70 damage to get Outrage to 90.

    Victini EX
This would require fire energies or the Victory Piece Ace Spec. This could score OHKOs easily but could cause consistency issues and an easy two prizes for the opponent.

Play silver mirror with keldeo ex, it stops Genesect, and only Virizon/Bouffalant/Mewtwo can attack.
This deck will crush plasma as well but it may ruin the consistency of this deck[DOUBLEPOST=1385389959][/DOUBLEPOST]Pokemon (22):
    4-1-3 Gothitelle LTR
    3-3 Accelgor DEX
    2-0-2 Dusknoir BCR
    2 Mew Ex
    2 Keldeo Ex

    Trainers (34):
    4 Professor Juniper
    4 N
    4 Skyla
    2 Colress

    4 Rare Candy
    3 Level Ball
    3 Float Stone
    3 Ultra Ball
    1 Super Rod
    1 Dowsing Machine
    2 Silver Mirror

    3 Tropical Beach

    Energy (4):
    4 Double Colorless Energy

... or they could just GBooster you if they get one on before you get set up.

Or they could read the card and understand that Silver Mirror dont work with Keldeo Ex =P

I think he means using Mirror on goth and using Keldeo to rush-in and retreat with float stone, rather than just using Float Stone to retreat Goth.

    Oh, that makes sense =P.
But still, they could easily just kill goth with Virizion.

Exactly. It's not like Virizion isn't attacking anyway to power up Genesect.

virizion will 3hko goth for 1 prize, accelgor/mew will 4hko virizion for 2 prizes. if they don't play mewtwo the prize trade seems to be in your favour.
unfortunately red signal gets around gothitelle allowing genesect to target down accelgors and mews. also allows tool scrapper to be played to get rid of silver mirror, and allows g-booster to be attatched.

    thematteo0 The quintessentially British gentleman.

Also Virizion EX is a lot faster and a more consistent attacker than having to deck Deck and Cover every turn. Honestly the deck should just give up against Virizion EX decks because there isn't really anything it can do to improve the match-up other than by ruining consistency and hurting other match-ups.

Victini EX and a Victory Piece wouldn't be an unreasonable tech. So far, it seems like many players are writing off goth/accelgor due to this one match up.

You're looking at a guaranteed EX knockout against Virizion/Genesect, maybe two under optimal conditions if you survive the Emerald Slash/Megalo Cannon, respectively (not counting lasers or g-boosters).

If either one gets prized it's a problem, but it's a problem with any deck.

What does everyone think of Celebi EX with Gothitelle, like what Ross Cawthon ran at Worlds? Improves the Virizion matchup...

Problem is Deleting Glare Gothorita is rotated, no?

But, anyone remember virizion ex ability?

Yeah, that is a big problem. In the current format, I imagine it would be used a little more for the attack, but you never know.

@falcon88 Yes. I know Virizion EX's Ability. But the deck has already seen success at European Regionals and multiple League Challenges and Cities in the USA, so it isn't dead yet. Also, there are other ways to run the deck, like with Gardevoir so it is easier to attack with Gothitelle.

This deck is just a meta call now. No Virizion in your area? Play this and you will have a extremely powerful deck that has almost all the power it had back when it won the US national.

Gothorita from Boundaries Crossed also has a flip attack for discarding energy, but it also does damage.
  18. LarryAlberto

LarryAlberto Hoping for a BCR-on rotation!

The problem with the one from Boundaries Crossed is that its attack costs 1 Psychic and 2 Colorless, meaning it will take at least 2 turns to power up, while the one with Deleting Glare only took 1 turn to power up.

You're right. I would say that it isn't bad because you're looking at two turns to set up Gothorita and three to set up a full Gothita-Gothorita-Gothitelle without rare candy (assuming celebi Ex is used)

Can't Prism/Blend GRPD be used in this deck, as it allows Mew to have a wider range of attacks, and allows Gothitelle to also attack. Just say that you're up against VirGen/VirMew, and you're unable to poison nor paralyze them. If you run Prism/Blend, you can use, let's say, Megalo Cannon, and score a KO with it. Or, if you're up against Plasma, you can catcher up Deoxys (assuming that you run it and flip heads) and KO it with Blizzard Burn due to weakness. I have tried it on PTCGO, and of my current 13 wins, 5 of them have been of Mew using something other than Deck and Cover.
