Archie’s Blastoise, Turbo Dark, and Ultra Night March for Richmond “Blastoise BCR has been a relevant card in almost every format it has been legal in. It won the World Championships in the Masters Division back in 2015 and has since frequently made deep runs at Regionals in our Expanded format. Throughout its history it’s received several buffs from cards such as Order Pad, Magikarp & Wailord GX, and now, most recently, Mewtwo & Mew GX in combination with Espeon & Deoxys GX. Having access to attacks, such as Kingdra GX’s Hydro Pump, through MewMew is extremely powerful and provides a lot of versatility to the deck. Here’s the list…
Powerhouse Plays—Nightmarch/Lucario-GX and Archie’s Blastoise—for Daytona “This was the Nightmarch/Lucario-GX list I played in Greensboro. This take on the deck began a few weeks prior to Toronto Regionals where we saw Jimmy Pendarvis take down the event with a similar list. Since Greensboro was being held only one week after Toronto, I knew going into Greensboro that there was going to be an influx of Nightmarch counters, such as Oricorio GRI 56 and Karen, included in a lot of decks. We even saw Azul’s 2nd place list run Articuno ROS 17 as a soft answer to Nightmarch. Although I knew this, I still went with my…
Recapping Toronto’s Headlines, the Two Paths, and on Trevenant, Zoroark/Garbodor, and Night March for Greensboro “Players had been clamoring for a Lusamine ban for quite some time, and about a month ago TPCi listened, giving it and Delinquent the boot from the format. While it’s probably not a good use of anyone’s time to envision how the results of Toronto would’ve looked had those two cards been legal, I think we can all agree we likely wouldn’t have seen such a diverse metagame under the old ban list. Even more importantly, the community has expressed almost unanimous positivity regarding the state of Expanded, following Toronto, which I never would’ve predicted three months ago. When was…
Standard Greninja and Thoughts for Toronto “Let us begin by exploring the list I have been working on: There is very little to discuss about the Pokemon count in this list. For the most part, this has been the norm since Steam Siege, and I think that is for good reason. There has been some debate over whether or not Talonflame is needed in the list, but I have argued for its inclusion since the Fall despite the trend somewhat reflecting otherwise. By no means is Talonflame “needed,” but Greninja, as many of are acutely aware, has some natural inconsistency, and I think Taloneflame is simply the…
Three for This Weekend, the Next, the One After That, and Fates Collide Gains “This was one of the new decks that BREAKpoint gave us. The deck has been making strong showings in Standard ever since its win in Florida. This deck is no longer under the radar and I expect it to be even more popular in Expanded. This is a good deck to keep in your playtesting circles as I would expect to play against it at least one or two times at Regionals. This is the Aaron Tarbell’s list that won Florida for reference. Many people advocate adding Head Ringer to deal with Sky Return looping. I actually do not support…
The skin on its face is impervious to attack, but breathing difficulties made this Pokémon go extinct anyway. (Arctovish)
9 Different Decks for Spring Regionals “It seems that nowadays, the topic of shuffling comes around more and more in the Pokémon community. This could relate to not shuffling enough, shuffling for too long and wasting time, or just overall bad habits. I don’t really mind how my opponent shuffles, as I will always give their deck a couple of riffles myself. When I’m playing against a good friend, I actually don’t even shuffle their deck most of the time and just trust that they wouldn’t try anything tricky. Overall, it’s never a bad idea to shuffle an opponent’s deck, though. For my own shuffling habits,…
Improving Meta Decks to Create the Three Best Decks in the Format “Shuffling is a funny thing. There are so many ways to shuffle your deck efficiently, and it seems like every player you encounter shuffles in their own way. Shuffling is something that occurs many, many times in one game, yet it is something that isn’t talked about often. I don’t think shuffling is a big deal, and I don’t care how my opponents shuffle as long as I can see that their cards are moving around so that they do not have any idea where a given card may be. As for me, I don’t have a stylish shuffle. I…
Random Thoughts on Randomizing, A Greener View from the Dark Side, and the Final Week “Is there a proper way to shuffle? This has been a question on my mind ever since I started playing the game … wondering if my shuffling caused this terrible dead draw or how my hand ended up so perfect. I could never figure out what was the best process to randomize my deck. If you really want to find the perfect technique, go ahead and do all the numerous statistics and probability problems in order to get to as few dead draws as possible. However, no matter what the outcome is, I am thoroughly convinced you will always have…
Fun Decks for Summer (Revenge Night March and Poliswag) “This deck is not a brand new idea, but more of a modification of the Night March deck that has been around for a while. Instead of utilizing Mew-EX as the main attacker, Chandelure PHF is used. Chandelure has the same ability as Gengar SF, Fainting Spell. Gengar was the first deck I ever won a tournament with, which is why I really want to make this deck work. Fainting Spell is a game-changing ability that gives you a 50/50 chance to take your opponent’s attacking Pokemon down with you. Now that we have Pokemon-EX in the format, a single…
VA States Top 8 Report, My Top 3 Picks for Spring Regionals, and Favorites from Roaring Skies “State Championships are always somewhat of a struggle for me. They take place during a busy time of the school year, and with only one week between each event, there is little time to test. This generally makes for situations where deck choices are made mostly on theory … which don’t always work out. Virginia States took place on the fourth weekend of the States cycle this year. Leading into the event, I wasn’t too sure what the best play would be. In Maryland the week prior, I played a Donphan deck to a disappointing 4-2-1 finish. Both of my losses…
This Pokémon slept for aeons while in the form of a statue. It was asleep for so long, people forgot that it ever existed. (Zamazenta)
